Seth Lloyd of Sallisaw is not only the number one “Girl Daddy” in Sequoyah County according to his two daughters, who seldom leave his side, but he is also the best coach they know.
Lloyd coaches his 10-year-old daughter Alivia‚s softball team “Oklahoma Savage” and spends most of his time at the ballfields, he said. His younger daughter, Zoee, 4, is going to be playing softball, too, and already has most of her gear ready, she said, gleaming.
“We‚re just a softball loving family. My family was involved in baseball and softball. I guess that‚s why we enjoy the sport so much. Our team won first place in the Sallisaw Youth League Tuesday night. We played through the whole season and finished up this week. If we had lost, we would have been the runner-ups but since we won, we are the champions of that league. I‚m pretty proud of the girls,” he said, smiling.
Lloyd has coached softball off and on since his older daughter was three and began playing in the Bambinos, which are the three and four year olds.
She said she plays utility (just about any position) but she wants to be a pitcher. She loves OU Softball. “Last year we took her to a game and she was able to get all the autographs of the OU Women‚s Softball Team,” her father said. Alivia said her favor
Alivia said her favorite player is Jocelyn Alo. She also likes Jordy Bahl, Kenzie Hansen and Jayda Coleman.
“She loves all of them. When we were watching them play in the World Series, she was so excited. We all were. Now her team forms a prayer circle just like the OU Sooners,” Lloyd said.
Lloyd said he has been spending most of the summer with his daughters since his wife works at a a daycare center in Sallisaw, the ’Bears Cub House.‚
“I work as a technician for Aristocrats, a company which has several games in some of the casinos,” he said. He has been doing that job for the past 11 years.
“I was born in California but my parents moved here when I was five years old. My dad is from here but he now lives in California. My mom is from California but she now lives here,” he said, laughing.
Lloyd said his Father‚s Day will be spent at an an end-of-season ball tournament in Fort Smith and a birthday dinner on Sunday. Later this month the family will pack up and go to the Nationals softball tournament in Branson, Mo., he said.
“I‚ve spent so many days at the ballfields there‚s just too many to count,” he said.
Younger daughter, Zoee, said she plans to draw a picture for her daddy on Father‚s Day. When asked if her dad does her hair which was braided similar to the OU Softball Team players, she said, “No, daddy just does ties and buns,” she said, which drew laughter from her dad and sister.
“I love my girls and coaching my daughter‚s softball team has allowed us all to spend more time together. I believe playing softball teaches them discipline and builds their confidence, and just teaches them about becoming a good person. Softball and being a dad is pretty much all I do,” he said.
