The 2022 Garrison Creek Riders Rodeo is celebrating its 50th anniversary with an action-packed event that the whole family can enjoy. The festivities begin on Friday, July 15, with mutton busting kicking off at 7:30 p.m. followed by events (in no particular order): Bareback, Steerwrestling, Calf Roping, Barrel Racing, Bull Riding, Team Roping, Saddle Bronc, Ladies Break Away, Ranch Bronc Riding, and Jr. Barrels.
“This is the best “little rodeo” in the area, so bring the family and enjoy the show. People ought to plan on staying to party Saturday night since Reservation Road will start the dance as soon as the bull riding's done,” Wesley White, event organizer, said.
The gates will open at 5 p.m. both days with admission fees of $10 for adults (age 13 and over), $5 for ages 6 to 12, and kids under 6 will get in free. White said there will be vendors onsite serving food and beer, as well as a bouncy castle for the kids.
As soon as Saturday's performance has ended, there will be live entertainment with the band Reservation Road performing, which is free with admission.
Those wishing to participate are asked to call 479-216-1619 while the books are open, Monday, July 11, from 5 to10 p.m. Participants must present a negative Coggins test at the gate as it is required for all equine, along with valid paperwork to be presented at the check station.
This award-winning rodeo has earned the Cowboy Regional Rodeo Association's (CRRA) Rodeo of the Year award 13 times over the last 50 years. The organizers are adding $6,000 to the purse for participants competing and that's in addition to the entry fees collected for each event.
Each event's entry fee and sponsor (if any) are as follows: Mutton Bustin, $20; Bareback, $80, Armstrong Bank; Steerwrestling, $80; Calf Roping, $80, Muldrow Chamber of Commerce; Barrel Racing, $80, Blue Ribbon Chevrolet; Bull Riding, $80, Coors; Team Roping, $125; Saddle Bronc, $80, Tim's Movies and Tan; Ladies Break Away, $80; Ranch Bronc Riding, $80, Oklahoma Grower; Jr. Barrels, $15, Pepsi.
“This is a local tradition and a great weekend of rodeoing, so plan to come support your favorite cowboys and cowgirls and help our “little rodeo” celebrate their golden anniversary,” White said.
The Garrison Creek Riders Arena is located three miles west of Roland and one mile east of Muldrow on the south side of Hwy. 64.
