A Muldrow man is charged with a felony count of lewd molestation after he allegedly sexually assaulted a minor under the age of 16.
William O. Reed, 30, was charged July 12 in Sequoyah County District Court and received a $25,000 bond. He is now scheduled for an August 17 felony disposition docket before Associate District Judge Kyle Waters.
Sequoyah County Sheriff‚s Investigator Cindy Smith reported receiving a report from Deputy Daniel Whitus regarding the alleged sexual assault of a minor.
Whitus said on July 10 he and Deputy Cody Parkerson were asked to contact a reporting party concerning a possible sexual assault, according to the affidavit.
The reporting party told him a child under the age of 16 was reportedly sexually assaulted by Reed. The deputy spoke with Reed via phone and Reed told him he could come and speak with him at his home. At the residence, Reed and a family member were present and Reed reportedly told the deputy, “I guess I have to come with you and I guess I should get a lawyer.” Reed was then asked to sit in Parkerson‚s patrol unit so they could speak with him further.
When asked if he would speak with Smith regarding the alleged sexual assault allegations, Reed said he wouldn‚t without an attorney present.
Smith spoke with the reporting party on July 9 who alleged the minor had been sexually assaulted by Reed, just hours before the report was made and was still wearing the same clothing from when the assault occurred.
During a forensics interview, the minor told authorities they were visiting Reed at his Muldrow residence. The minor said Reed was lying on the bed when he requested the minor come to him and give him a hug. Reed then told the minor he was going to “wrap” the minor up. He then proceeded to place the minor face down and wrap his legs around the minor so the minor couldn‚t move.
The minor said they tried to get away from Reed but were unsuccessful in doing so. Reed then reportedly sexually assaulted the minor, according to the affidavit.
When the reporting party confronted Reed about the alleged sexual assault, he claimed he didn‚t know what the reporting party was talking about. When Reed was told the minor had told the reporting party about the alleged sexual assault, he then stated he was sorry and had “urges that he couldn‚t control.”
The reporting party said that‚s when they picked the minor up and called the Sheriff‚s Office to make a report.
If found guilty of the charge, District Attorney Jack Thorp said it is punishable by imprisonment in the custody of the Department of Corrections for not less than 25 years.
