Sallisaw Rodeo Sign-Up Scheduled for July 27 Lea Lessley Sports Writer Wed, 07/20/2022 - 06:43

Registration for the 78th annual Sallisaw Lions Club Rodeo will open on Wednesday, July 27, rodeo chairman Marley Abell said.

The books for registration will open at 8 a.m. on July 27 and close later that day at 5 p.m. Permits, locals and youth cards are accepted. To enter the rodeo, which will be held Aug. 4-6, phone 337-427- 6336 on July 27.

This year‚s rodeo will be co-sanctioned by the International Professional Rodeo Association (IPRA) and the American Cowboys Rodeo Association (ACRA).

Local cowboys and cowgirls do not have to have an IPRA card to enter the rodeo, Abell said.

“There‚s always something that comes up about whether or not you have to have an IPRA card to be to be able to take on (enter) an event, and locals are exempt from that,” Sallisaw rodeo chairman Marley Abell said. “Permits, locals and youth cards are accepted, but you still have to pay the entry fee. Locals are exempt from having to become IPRA members.”

Traditional events featured at the Sallisaw rodeo are bareback bronc riding, bull riding, cowgirl barrel racing, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, team roping, tie-down roping and cowgirl breakaway roping.

Rodeo contestants will be competing for $13,500 in added money,” Abell said.
