Wanna buy a dinosaur?

Wanna buy a dinosaur? News Staff Wed, 07/20/2022 - 06:43

Kid Robin Read isn‚t shopping for plastic dinosaurs He‚s found a real dinosaur skeleton for sale in New York!

The Gorgosaurus carnivores lived in today‚s Montana and Alberta, Canada about 76 million years ago. Its bigger cousin, the Tyrannosaurus Rex, came along about 10 million years later. Experts say Gorgosaurus was faster and had a sharper bite than the deadly T-Rex. Gorgosaurus means

Gorgosaurus means Dreadful Lizard, a good moniker for something with a huge jaw, powerful legs, and a long tail. Its arms were relatively small.

It stood 10 feet tall and 22 feet long, too big to fit in Robin‚s bedroom.

Want to put in a bid? Sotheby‚s will auction the skeleton on July 28 in New York City. Sadly, Robin‚s allowance won‚t cover the expected $5-$8-million sale price.

This fossil was found in 2018 in the Judith River Formation near Havre, Montana, Sotheby‚s says.

The auction house is mum about who found and who owns it now.

“In my career, I have had the privilege of handling and selling many exceptional and unique objects, but few have the capacity to inspire wonder and capture imaginations quite like this unbelievable Gorgosaurus skeleton,” says Cassandra Hatton, Sotheby‚s global head of science and popular culture.

But some paleontologists say that selling specimens to collectors limits scientific research.

Want to visit dinosaurs? The Kid plans a trip to the Sam Noble Museum in Norman, Oklahoma to admire a 95-foot Apatosaurus, Saurophaganax, and Pentaceratops. He can do that without $8-million.
