Two Cowboys Selected On Final Day Of MLB Draft Bryce Osmond Oklahoma State University Athletics Thu, 07/21/2022 - 21:19

STILLWATER – Two Oklahoma State pitchers, Bryce Osmond and Kale Davis, were among the final day picks of the 2022 Major League Baseball Draft.

OSU had nine players selected in this year‚s draft, tying for the third most among all Division I schools in 2022. Seven of the Cowboys taken were righthanded pitchers.

The total also ranks as the fourth most in a single draft in program history. The Cowboys had a record 11 players taken in the 2007 and 2016 MLB Drafts, and 10 OSU players were selected in the 1985 draft.

In 10 seasons under head coach Josh Holliday, OSU has now had 58 MLB Draft picks, with 22 of those going in the first 10 rounds.

Osmond, who was a 15th-round pick of the Los Angeles Angels, has been a weekend starter throughout his career in Stillwater, and he owns a 7-8 record and 5.93 ERA in 29 appearances, 26 of those starts. In 133 2/3 innings of work, he has tallied 163 strikeouts.

A product of Jenks, Okla., Osmond is coming off a 2022 season in which he went 4-2 with a 4.75 ERA in 12 starts and recorded career highs in strikeouts (77) and innings pitched (60 2/3).

An honorable mention All-Big 12 performer, Osmond went 4-1 with a 3.62 ERA in seven conference starts last season and posted 43 strikeouts in 37 1/3 innings.

Davis, an Oklahoma City native, was chosen in the 16th round by Toronto.

In 59 career appearances in an OSU uniform, 56 of those out of the bullpen, Davis was 5-4 with a save and a 4.40 ERA while tallying 139 strikeouts in 108 1/3 innings.

Davis pitched in 26 games each of the last two seasons, and he ranked second on the Cowboys with 68 strikeouts in 2021.
