Logan Lease may only be 12, but the Vian student has been sporting a mullet for the past year in hopes of winning the kids division USA Mullet Championships.
Logan, one of many contestants in the annual contest, said he made it to the top round prior to the top final contestants who were most “Liked” on Facebook. Unfortunately, he did not make it to the finals. The top 25 kids with the most “Likes” moved on to the final round and the winner will be decided by a panel of judges, he said.
“I had fun with it. I plan to enter again,” Logan said. According to his mother, Nicole,
According to his mother, Nicole, Logan had wanted a mullet for quite a while and made the decision to grow it out just before last summer. The top winner of the mullet contest receives $2,500. If he had won, Logan said he had plans to donate some of his money to his home church and purchase some fishing gear.
Logan said he has no plans to cut his hair. “I‚m just going to let it grow and maybe I can enter the contest again next year,” he said.
Logan said Rut Daniels, a renowned archery hunter who also sports a mullet, was his inspiration to grow the mullet.
“I like Rut Daniels because he‚s cool and country. Hunting and fishing are his favorite things, just like me!” he said.
Born in California, Logan‚s family moved to the Gore area when he was just a baby. He also has two older sisters, Adrianna and Brooklyn, and a little brother named Harley, he said.
When school begins next month, Logan said he will be entering the seventh grade.
“The best part of going to school is I get to see my friends,” he said, smiling.
In addition to fishing and hunting, he enjoys riding his dirt bike.
Logan said the best part about entering a mullet contest was all the support he received from his friends and family.
“My friends were happy I made it that far. They were hoping I‚d win,” he said. “I‚m just going to keep growing my hair so I can enter the contest again.”
Logan said if he had won some money from the contest, he would have also bought a new church shirt.
“Mainly because we had to cut the sleeves off of one of them for my mullet photos,” he said with a laugh. Just Folks.
