County Well Represented at 78th Sallisaw Lions Club Rodeo News Staff Fri, 08/12/2022 - 05:55

The 78th Annual Sallisaw Lions Club Rodeo‚s attendance over the three-day event was estimated to be nearly 8,000 and featured competitors from as far away as New Mexico.

Sequoyah County‚s cowboys and cowgirls were well represented with contestants that hailed from Gans, Vian, Gore, Muldrow and Sallisaw. Sallisaw‚s own Tandy Meyers finished in eighth place with a time of 15.928 seconds in the barrel racing competition.

The bareback riding winner was Quintonn Lunsford from McCune, Kan., with a score of 81.5.

In team roping the winners were Eric Flurry from Spiro and Chase McGuire from McAlester with a time of 4.9 seconds.

The barrel racing event was won by Kynder Starr from Catoosa with a time of

15.579 seconds.

Only two bull riders were able to go the distance and Cannon Cravens from Torun took first place with a score of 89 points.

The first place steer wrestler was James Taylor from Tulsa with a time of

3.9 seconds.

The first place saddle bronc prize went to Rowdy Chesser from Aline with a score of 80 points.

In the breakaway roping category there was a tie for first with the winners being Angela Bartley from Chouteau and Jennifer Hyde from Mt. Vernon, Ark. Both ropers turned in a time of 3.1 seconds.

The tie down roping event went to Ethan Hill from South Coffeyville with a time of 8.6 seconds.
