Left-handed newspaper was a treat
Dear Editor: Why should it be surprising what elections bring out in folks.
Take, for instance, the Care with Prayer franchise on E. Cherokee. They display a huge sign saying, VOTE NO – DON‚T RAISE TAXES. Nothing about what the bond issue is for. Doesn‚t “Care with Prayer” connotate a religious and caring attitude?
Then there is the busy body (Facebook and other social media) on I-40 near Muldrow. The one who reminds all travelers he has a different president. Why is he so interested in defeating Sallisaw‚s bond issue for the children‚s safety? Some say maybe he is carrying water for some Trump biggie who does not want his name attached to a NO vote.
Hopefully, it is people like these two that will inspire us to get out the vote for the kids‚ safety.
DAN GEORGE, SALLISAW
How can they? Dear Editor: The wrath of COVID has caused an end to the way we used to live our lives, unimaginable changes for every human on earth.
Americans had to do whatever was necessary and ordered by our government officials or very likely die.
America shut down and we had to stay at home. As time passed and changes were made, better knowledge of the virus and how to protect oneself and our loved ones and await a vaccine to be made available to us all.
Businesses were closed, jobs were gone, incomes dwindled away, savings gone and the bills kept coming for our utilities, our rent or mortgages, etc., and without money for paying our bills we suffer the consequences.
We all know how it goes. If no payment is made they will cut services off or take your home, or car away.
Now we are made to suffer more over something we had no control over at all. As we all now know, the most essential things we have to do to com- city court and immediately upon his release by the city authorities, was arrested by deputy U.S. Marshal George Ritter and hailed before U.S. Commissioner J.W. Breedlove, who placed him under a $500.00 bond for appearance before the federal court under the charge of possessing intoxicating liquor. Long lives on Brushy mountain, several miles north of this city, where the mountain dew is heavily laden with the essence of “corn.”
Chief Newman was at the ice plant Tuesday afternoon just before dusk, when he noticed Long acting suspiciously around Wheeler‚s cotton gin. He investigated and discovered the booze in Long‚s wagon and a single quart on his hip. Long made bond and was released by Commissioner Breedlove Several engineers and expert accountants of the Oklahoma Gas and Electric company have been in Sallisaw for the past week making a complete examination of the physical property of the municipal light and water plant, and making the audit of the books and accounts, to ascertain the amount of revenue and expenditures of the plant, with an idea of making the city a proposition to take over the entire property or furnish electrical power from their high power lines, that will run through this city from Ft. Smith Ark., to their extensive power plant on the Arkansas river near Ft. Gibson.
