The Webbers Falls Board of Trustees met on Aug. 9 where they appointed a new trustee to fill a vacant seat.

Danny Haley addressed the board during public speaking, asking to be considered for the vacant seat.

A motion was later made by Mayor Johnny Pollard and seconded by Meghan Johnson to appoint Haley to fill the vacant seat, with all other trustees voting pro. Haley was reportedly sworn in at 9 a.m. on Aug. 10, according to meeting minutes.

Following an executive session, the board reconvened and announced to give Police Chief Wayne Cartwright and Clint Powell both a raise of $2 per hour; and Curtis Elkins a raise of $1 per hour, effective Aug. 16.

Johnson said there would be a ’Bike and Roll‚ to school event on the morning of Oct. 5. She said she wanted to let everyone know that there will be several police vehicles around town for the event.

In city maintenance, Supervisor Shane Robinson reported town workers have been busy mowing. He said the paint needed to re-paint the crosswalks is ordered, they are just waiting on it to come in. Mayor Pollard also gave an update on the process of getting the sewer lagoon cleaned out.

For the month of July, the police department reported there was 110 total calls taken, 73 citations issued, 46 total verbal and written warnings, six accidents worked, 11 total drug violations, 10 total reports, 114 total traffic stops, 224 total contacts and 16 hours worked by reserve officers.

The Webbers Falls Volunteer Fire Department was given permission to spend $4,800 on gym equipment. The department reported that even with the dryness, there has not been many calls. For July, they only responded to a few medical calls and wrecks.

The trustees tabled both Resolution #2022-08-09A, a Fair Housing Resolution for the town, and Resolution #2022-08-09B, adopting a Section 3 Plan as set forth in the Housing and Urban Development Act of 1968. Wells, Wan & Company, CPA, P.C. was hired for accounting services, and Robert St. Pierre CPA, P.C. was approved for hire to perform the FY 2022-23 Audit.

Chamber President Nannette Oldfield received permission to use the Event Center and downtown area for the Historical Downtown Christmas event on Dec. 10.
