Trustees discuss establishing Parks Committee, resignations accepted

By Amie Cato-Remer

Trustees discuss establishing Parks Committee, resignations accepted Amie Cato-remer Tue, 08/30/2022 - 21:11

The Vian Board of Trustees met on Aug. 15 where they discussed establishing a Parks Committee, accepted resignations from two employees and talked about a case involving the Sequoyah County Water Association during an executive session.

The trustees had a discussion on whether or not to establish a Town of Vian Parks Committee, following a suggestion by Mayor Dennis Fletcher about creating a five to seven member committee. The trustees and audience also suggested possible members during the meeting.

Suzanne Sullivan and Sinclair Armstrong addressed the trustees about pursuit of an upcoming grant opportunity through Rural Development for parks projects through the newly formed parks committee.

Town attorney Larry Vickers, Jr. spoke to the board after talking to Stone Sanders about the agreement with the Vian Community Trust.

The board approved an agreement with the City of Sallisaw for use of their facility for the impound of animals for Fiscal Year 2022-23.

Resignations were approved and accepted from Christen Hinson and Nicklaus Yoakum; and employment was approved for Joshua Cummings, Kyler Jones and Amber Rigsby.

During an executive session of the Vian Public Works Authority meeting, the trustees discussed the Town of Vian VPWA vs Sequoyah County Water Association, Case No. CV-2017-00153. Upon reconvening, no announcements were made regarding the case.

The Vian Board of Trustees meets the third Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers, which are located inside the Vian Police Department.
