LEA LESSLEY SPORTS WRITER Vian quarterback Diego Ramos passed for 267 yards and three touchdowns and Desean Mays caught seven throws for 204 yards and two TDs Friday night inside Paul Bell Stadium as the Class 2A No. 4 Wolverines scored 20 unanswered points in the second stanza on its way to a 40-26 non-district win over 10th-ranked Eufaula.

On Friday the Wolverines (1-1) host 3A No. 1 Lincoln Christian and Eufaula (0-1) visits Sequoyah-Tahlequah.

“Desean (Mays) had a big game and Diego (Ramos) I thought played well and Masyn Wright had a good game,” Vian head coach Gary Willis said. “On defense we‚ve got to tackle a lot better than we did. Pleased with the win but a lot of things we need to do to get better. We didn‚t tackle well and our special teams need a lot of work but I thought Diego played great, Desean had 200 yards of receiving and Masyn had a 100 rushing. A good night, took care of the ball well but we‚ve got to get better in some areas.”

Eufaula quarterback Luke Adcock ran for a 2-yard touchdown almost midway through the opening period before Gavin Lambert‚s extra point made the score 7-0.

The Wolverines got on the board with 31 seconds to go in the second stanza when quarterback Diego Ramos completed a 23-yard touchdown pass to Desean Mays. The two-point conversion failed and the score remained 7-6.

Early in the second period Vian grabbed the lead (12-6) when Gage Carlton returned a fumble 60 yards for a TD.

Ramos crossed the goal line after a 4-yard run with 2:06 to go in the second but the point-after kick was no good.

With 48 seconds to go before the half Ramos and Wright ran the ball 17 times for 103 yards, Mays followed with 42 yards and a TD on 11 attempts, Carlton had five rushes for 17 yards and Ramos had six carries for 10 yards and a touchdown.

Adcock completed 15-of-22 passes for 229 yards and a touchdown, Kaden Bumgarner (66 yards) and Kaden Rice (62) caught four throws apiece and Adcock rushed for 68 yards and three TDs on eight attempts.

Mays teamed up for a 54-yard touchdown pass and Masyn Wright‚s conversion reception gave the Wolverines a 26-7 advantage at the break.

Two minutes into the third quarter Adcock ran for a 5-yard touchdown and with 6:48 left the senior completed a 41-yard touchdown throw to make the score 26-19.

Mays ran for a 24-yard touchdown and the two-point conversion at the 3:04 mark as Vian widened its lead to 15 (34-19).

Adcock‚s 38-yard touchdown run and Lambert‚s point-after kick with 1:45 to go in the third made the score 34-26.

With 2:19 left in the fourth frame Ramos tossed a 14-yard touchdown pass to Jacob Brannick to end the scoring.

Ramos completed 13-of-23 passes for 267 yards and three touchdowns and Vian‚s pass catchers were Mays (7 receptions for 204 yards and two TDs), Carlton (1 for 17), Michael Polecat (1 for 15), Brannick (1 for 14), Wright (2 for 12) and Nathan Creasey (1 for 5).
