Gans travels to Red Oak for district tournament Thursday

Gans‚ high school softball team scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning to break a 3-3 tie Monday at home on its way to a 14-4 run-rule win over Cave Springs.

After Cave Springs registered three runs in the top of the first Gans‚ Brianna Burris led off the bottom of the inning with a walk. Emily Phillips‚ RBI triple scored courtesy runner Makenzy Hunter and after a pitch hit Gabbie Price, Phillips and Price scored on a pair of wild pitches with Reina Gaona at the plate. Gaona walked before a pitch hit Allye Gee but the Lady Hornets turned a triple play to end the inning following K‚Cee Osburn‚s flyout.

Burris struck out two Cave Springs‚ batters in the top of the second and in the bottom of the inning Destiny Phillips walked to begin the at-bat. After Kennady Ruckman flied out, Audrianna Lasiter was hit by a pitch before a walk, two hit batters and three wild pitches led to three runs and a 6-3 lead. Gee‚s RBI single up the middle drove in two more runs and with the bases loaded Gans registered its ninth run when a pitch hit Destiny Phillips.

The Lady Hornets scored their fourth run in the third inning and in the bottom of the frame the Lady Grizzlies added five runs to their advantage. With the bases loaded Gaona registered an RBI after being hit by a pitch before Gee‚s two-RBI single to left field and Osburn‚s RBI base hit to right field made the score 13-4. Gans scored its final run on a wild pitch.

In its second game of the day Monday Gans defeated Watts 11-5.

The Lady Grizzlies travel to Red Oak on Thursday for their Class A district tournament. Gans takes on Quinton at noon and Red Oak plays the loser in Game 2 of the double-elimination tournament. Red Oak meets the Gans-Quinton winner in Game 3 and other tournament matchups are to be determined.
