Unbeaten Muldrow takes it 3-0 record to LeFlore County Friday night to take on undefeated Spiro (2-0) in its final nondistrict game of the season.
Kickoff inside McClain Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Muldrow moved to 3-0 for the season last week with a 38-17 road win at Sallisaw and Spiro is 2-0 after topping Pocola 35-8.
Last season Spiro edged Muldrow 41-35 inside Aubrey J. Henshaw Bulldog Stadium.
“Coach (Kyle) Fowler does an awesome job,” Muldrow head coach Brandon Ellis said. “He‚s got them going in the right direction. They play hard, they‚re big kids, physical, and he‚s going to have them ready to go. Traditionally Spiro‚s always been tough and I think he‚s continuing that.”
Some of Spiro‚s key players on offense are linemen Dalton Dollar (5-foot-10, 240-pound senior), Calvin McKinney (5-11, 235, sr.), Bryan Hammontree (6-0, 225, sr.) and Logan Carter (6-4, 255, sr.), quarterback Brycen Graham (6-5, 195, soph.), running back Jordan Johnson (5-9, 170, jr.) and receivers Blake Dedmon (5-8, 145, sr.) and Gabe Perez (5-9, 160, sr.).
“On offense they‚re running the ball a lot more,” said Ellis. “They‚re similar kind of to us. They‚re multiple at times and they‚ll spread you out a little bit. I think they want to run the ball, kind of power and counter runs a lot. In my opinion that‚s what they‚re good at and that‚s what they‚re built for. They‚ll get in an I (formation) and they‚ll get in kind of a two-back gun look. They‚ll use a tight end some and then they‚ll spread them out.
“On defense we‚ve just got to continue to keep doing what they‚re doing. They‚re creating turnovers, they‚re playing fast and it all goes back to assignment football. Everybody‚s flying around and it‚s exciting. Coach (Logan) Coatney‚s got a great game plan and he‚s had one for the past three weeks and I don‚t see it changing.”
Coatney is Muldrow‚s defensive coordinator.
A few of Spiro‚s key players on defense are linebackers Jordan Johnson, Hunter Sparks (5-8, 165, sr.), Kadon Craig (5-11, 190, jr.) and Dalton Dollar, defensive lineman Logan Carter and defensive back Tommy Worton (5-9, 155, sr.).
Spiro‚s defense will line up in a 4-man front, Ellis said.
“On offense we‚ve got to continue to win the line of scrimmage,” remarked Ellis. “I think that‚s what helped us Friday night, our big guys were just making holes for Trenden (Collins). We had one turnover, I believe, so we want to cut out that and cut out the penalties because we had some really dumb penalties Friday night. If we can cut out penalties and cut out turnovers and win the line of scrimmage I think we‚ve got a shot.”
