Webbers Falls focused on giving Oaks-Mission its first loss

By Jim Cameron Sports Writer

Webbers Falls focused on giving Oaks-Mission its first loss Jim Cameron Sports Writer Fri, 09/16/2022 - 07:31

Webbers Falls travels to Oaks-Mission today, confident the visitors can give the undefeated home Warriors their first loss of the season.

Webbers Falls head coach Trent Holt is coming off his team‚s second home game victory, a 54-8 dismantling of Arkoma, and is preparing his Warriors (2-1) to take on the Oaks-Mission Warriors (3-0).

“They‚re 3 and 0, and they‚re pretty deep,” Holt said. “Their competition level hasn‚t been that great, but neither has ours. They‚ve got a decent quarterback, and their running backs are pretty quick. We‚ve got to control those three.”

The Oaks spread gun offense is led by senior quarterback Ethan Parsley, who‚s pretty mobile and wants to spread the ball around by getting it to his playmakers more this season.

“Their offensive line does a good enough job. They don‚t block tremendously, but those kids back there can run and they‚ll beat us if we let ’em, so we gotta be sure tacklers and get off the blocks. They like to run the quarterback a lot, they like to run the tailback.

“They‚ve thrown it a few times, but they‚re not great,” Holt said. “I‚d like to shut the run game down and have them try to beat us throwing it, ‚cause if they do that, then we‚ve got a really good shot to win.”

Oaks defense has four starters returning this year, and can hit hard with good instincts that could give Webbers Falls an uphill battle if the home Warriors get some turnovers and have a good game.

Holt believes his Warriors have improved steadily since Week 0, and if they don‚t turnover the ball, then they can best whatever Oaks can dish out.

Holt is still making adjustments, but he has confidence in his team‚s ability to run the ball, but is wanting to get more success with the passing game to have a more balanced offense with which their opposition will have to deal.

Ultimately, having a successful passing option available will make running the ball easier for this high-scoring rushing powerhouse than it already seems to be.

Making the special teams better equipped to stop teams from recovering onside kicks is another area of focus Holt has spent time practicing this week. Webbers Falls is starting to hit its stride, and is looking confident, which tends to happen when your previous two games are both come-frombehind wins. If this week‚s practice pays off and any big plays are made by Webbers Falls while its penalties and turnovers are low, Oaks may experience its first setback of the young season.
