Sequoyah County Commissioners approved a request Monday from CED (Circuit Engineering District) Manager Scott Brians for a programming resolution to get the repair work started for Indian Road.

According to Brians, Cherokee Nation has offered to pay for the “failure” of the road which washed out a tinhorn and a large portion of the road due to heavy rains which fell earlier this year.

Brians said ODOT (Oklahoma Department of Transportation) will fund the overlay for two miles in Sequoyah County and six miles in Cherokee County.

Brians did not say when the project would begin but there is a plan now and the commissioners approval of the request is part of the process.

Brians serves as program director for the Eastern Oklahoma CED which includes the counties of Adair, Cherokee, Haskell, McIntosh, Muskogee, Okmulgee, Wagoner and Sequoyah.

In other business, the commissioners approved to purchase a Kubota tractor on Sourcewell and a Land Pride brush hog on state contract from Stewart Martin Kubota for District 3.

They also approved a transfer from Sequoyah County District 3 maintenance and operations to District 3 Capital Outlay.

Also approved was the Sequoyah County Sheriff‚s Office to purchase three 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe PPVs through Vance Fleet Services on the department‚s state contract. It was clarified by Sequoyah County Undersheriff Charles House one of the vehicles will be bought out right while the other two would be financed.

Another item approved by the commissioners was a subdivision plat for LJM Farm House by Osburn Land Surveyors, LLC.
