The Vian Board of Education met on Sept. 12 where it voted to start accepting bids on revamping the school‚s old rock gymnasium and approved several temporary contracts during an executive session.

The board gave a green light on accepting bids for the old rock gym for plumbing, electrical, new windows and HVAC.

Following an executive session, the board members approved temporary employment contracts for the 2022-23 school year, hiring the following: Jason Elbon as a full-time bus driver; Haven Morrow and Jessica Hunter as paraprofessionals; Christina Herriman as a middle school adjunct teacher; and career status to Brooke Tracy and Diana Weed.

During public comment, Isaac Barnoskie spoke on Cross Country and Rebecca Seaton on the medical marijuana policy.

The board also approved the following for the 2022-23 school year:

• Reinstating color guard and twirler programs • Gifted & Talented committee

• College remediation/ dropout report

• Esser use of funds plan

• OSDE under the authority of agreement with OHCA schoolbased health services program

• Estimate of needs

• Fundraisers for high school classes The board approved encumbrance #365#417 and changes for a net increase of $126,992.44 within the 2022-23 General Funds, #5-#9 and changes increase of $349,491.83 within the 2022-23 Building Fund.

The Vian Board of Education mets at 6 p.m. the second Monday of every month in the administration building.
