Warriors have Dewar in their sights

By Jim Cameron Sports Writer

The Webbers Falls Warriors host their toughest rival of the year today when the unbeaten and top-ranked Dewar Dragons come to town for a 7 p.m. kickoff. The Webbers Falls Warriors host their toughest rival of the year today when the unbeaten and top-ranked Dewar Dragons come to town for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Webbers Falls head coach Trent Holt knows that this is going to be the Warriors‚ toughest opponent this year in the regular season, and he took advantage of an off week to prepare his charges for the Dragons tonight. “They‚re legit. We have to play really good football to have a chance against them to have a chance to win,” Holt said. “If we play as good as we can, we‚ve got a great shot.”

Dewar is coming off a 13-1 season last year, and Dragons head coach Josh Been thinks they will have a tougher season this year returning two players on offense after making it to the state semifinals last year. Returning is last year‚s leading rusher, Nevin Corben, and Zack Mullen, who has moved into the quarterback position where he‚ll throw to his favorite receivers, Triton Mack or Nick Hudson.

The Dragons run a spread offense, so there will be a lot of matchups the Warriors are going to need to win to be effective.

“We‚re just going to have to play. We‚re going to have to win a lot of one-on-one battles. You‚ve got to get off blocks, and you‚ve got to make tackles. Then you‚ve got to block ’em, because their D-line is good, and their linebackers are good. You know, they‚re just a good football team.”

The Warriors take the field at home in this Class B District 5 matchup, and should have sparks flying from the initial kickoff until the final buzzer sounds.
