A Few of My Favorite Things

By A Few Of My Favorite Things

It is that time again for me. The annual AVMC Halloween Party my family started is this Saturday in Okmulgee at the VFW. I am super busy this week preparing for that so I went with some easy things I could make over the weekend because I really don‚t have a lot of time for the column this week and, well, it‚s been hard.

It‚s been a year since Daddy passed away. Last year, we were so busy this time of year it almost felt like he was just still in the hospital and just wasn‚t around. We didn‚t process it until after Christmas. This year, we have felt every bit of his loss and it‚s been hard to function through October, hard to get into the preparations for Halloween, hard to even want to bake and I haven‚t felt that way since my husband passed away. Baking is often my solace and even it fails me right now. Dad not being here is making it so hard to want to get ready for the party or even go.

I hope you guys don‚t mind more sweets. I wanted some Halloween foods, but went easy for me which meant desserts again. Pancakes are topped with syrup and still considered sweets in my house. I often talk about how easy it is to add coloring and make something fun for any holiday. I did that this week. These are all common recipes I made into fun Halloween goodies with food coloring. Bonus, none of these recipes took much time to make and my nephew helped me out this past weekend to make it even easier. Thank you Levi! He had never had homemade cocoa and told me he would never drink the powdered mix again. Sorry to Tera for ruining that! LOL! Make your grocery list and let‚s get ready for Halloween fun! Maybe put on a movie to enjoy while munching your goodies! Meet me in the kitchen for these easy Halloween treats!
