Fire destroys home on Hickory Street
A house fire which is believed to have began on the back porch completely destroyed the residence located at 101 S. Hickory Street in Sallisaw, according to Sallisaw Fire Chief Anthony Armstrong. A house fire which is believed to have began on the back porch completely destroyed the residence located at 101 S. Hickory Street in Sallisaw, according to Sallisaw Fire Chief Anthony Armstrong. Armstrong said his department received the call around 12:15 p.m. Wednesday and the crew was back to the fire department by 1:30. “It didn‚t take very long to put it out, but the house is a total loss. We had to tear some of the ceiling down to the attic which is how far the fire had reached,” he said. Neighbors reported the resident was not at home at the time of the fire. Armstrong said there was a dog and some puppies which did not not make it out of the house. Cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
