Sequoyah County 911 Director David Slaughter announced Monday during the Sequoyah County Commissioners meeting the City of Poteau is requesting a letter of concurrence from the county due to upgrades the town is planning for their radio system.
Slaughter said a part of the county’s telecommunication system shares frequency with Poteau and once they make their upgrades, the frequency may or may not interfere with the county’s west end tower and can possibly making communication difficult at times if interference is involved.
“The FCC requires towns or counties to send out letters requesting the concurrence before a license can be given to them,” Slaughter said. “They want to make sure their new system does not interfere with with our system.”
Slaughter said interference could involve the West Tenkiller Fire Department and communication in the Gore area.
Commissioners questioned since the county is looking to upgrade the radio system, if the same request could be ap- plied to Poteau once the upgrade to digital gets underway for Sequoyah County.
Slaughter, who is the frequency coordinator for all of Sequoyah County, said it was something he would look into.
The issue was discussed during the Citizen’s Presentation portion of the meeting in which no action can be taken.
In other business, the commissioners approved an agreement for work on private property by and between Coleman Harris and Sequoyah County District 2. District 2 Commissioner Beau Burlison said there are two sites on the property which need to be cleared.
Under new business the commissioners approved Ray Watts as the requisitioning agent for the Sequoyah County Emergency Management department due to the recent retiring of the director, Steve Rutherford.
They also approved a claim form for payment of right-of-way property for two parcels on the Sallisaw View project in District 3 to replace a bridge on the old “dump road.”
Commissioners also approved cash fund estimate and needs and request for appropriations and all monthly reports and blanket purchase orders.
