Members learn to not bully themselves
We had six ladies meet Monday. We had a net gain this week of 1.2 pounds. We will have a better week this coming week. Our best weight loss was by Virginia of 1.8 pounds. Weigh to go, Virginia! Keep up the good work. Virginia also won the Two Bit Bowl of quarters! Lucky lady! We have four more blank spots to sign up for the Loser’s Lotto.

Our chapter challenge this week has three steps: eat veggies at least 3 times this week; exercise 30 minutes at least 3 times and a fun challenge is to write down how old we feel at noontime and will see if we will feel more positive about our weight loss journey.
Our State Coordinator, Maria, announced that when her husband retires in 2023 and they sell their house in Owasso, they will be moving to Florida where they have already purchased a house. She has been our State Coordinator for five years and Area Captain for five years previous to that. We will miss her greatly. Our new State Coordinator will be Randy Givan, currently of Gladstone MO. He has been a TOPS member for 30 years. He will assume the role of Oklahoma State Coordinator effective January 1, 2023. We are looking forwards to meeting Randy.
Our program Monday was titled “Critic Crackdown: Overcoming Our Inner Bully.” The word ‘bullying’ might call to mind the stereotypical school bully who calls us names or demands our lunch money. But bullying exists in every part of our culture and takes many forms, including cyberbullying. While most of us have encountered at least one bully in person or online, the bully we most need to reform is the one in our head. We fret about our weight, judge our choices and call ourselves names. Although our inner bully is often unkind, it likely wants the best for us. We can help transform our inner self-talk from negative to positive—but it takes some work. We want to replace those critical thoughts with positive self-talk. When we speak to ourselves by name, the practice can help us make better choices. Come up with a few sentences of self-talk that you can use during the week, such as, “Billie, you’re doing such a good job of eating your vegetables today!” or “Virginia, you are doing a great job of walking two miles each day!” Positive self-talk leads to positive results. When we harness our mind and support our own success with positive messages, we can achieve powerful results. Make a commitment to speak kindly to others…and yourself… and stick to it.
