James Morton served in the Oklahoma National guard 1947-1950 and entered the United States Air Force during the Korean War in 1951. He continued a career as a military investigator in the Air Force Office of Special Investigations through the Viet Nam War period. He had foreign tours in Japan (2), Germany and Turkey. He also served at Vance AFB (Enid) and Tinker AFB (Midwest City), Oklahoma, Virginia, Montana and Nebraska as well as at USAF Headquarters, Washington, D.C. He retired as a Colonel in 1977. His awards included the Legion of Merit.
The following ran in Sequoyah County Times in Nov. 1944 Mr. and Mrs. Frank Morton of route 1, Gore, have four sons and one son-in-law in service.
Leland M. Morton, 24, Machinist’s mate, second class, enlisted in the navy September 29, 1942. He has been in the southwest Pacific for more than 26 months and is expected home this week for his first furlough since January Corp. Aaron C. Morton, 23, entered the army air forces October 8, 1942, served more than 26 months overseas with the air transport command in Great Britain, has completed three and one-half months of additional training in California and arrived on furlough July 8.
William Don Morton, 19, seaman, second class, entered the navy January 8, 1945, received his “boat” training at Great Lakes, Ill., and was sent overseas early in April. He is not stationed in the Philippines.
Pvt. Reuben O. Morton, 18, entered the army in February and received several months’ training at Fayetteville, Ark., before he was assigned to his present station, Sheppard Field, Wichita Falls, Texas.
The Morton’s sonin- law, Pvt. Harvey E. Bishop, is stationed at Fort Lewis, Wash.
