A pre-diabetes prevention workshop is planned for Sequoyah County residents who may wish to enroll in the 16-week program, Janis Risley, OSU Family and Consumer Science Educator, announced Monday at the Sequoyah County Commissioners meeting.
Risley said the workshop will be 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. beginning Jan. 17 at the Stanley Tubbs Memorial Library in Sallisaw.
“The workshop is for those who are not diabetic but want to prevent diabetes. If they have a BMI (body mass index) of 25 or more, or maybe if there is a history of diabetes in the family, they can enroll. If they have diabetes already, they can’t enroll. There are other programs available for those with diabetes,” she said.
Risley said more details about the workshop will be provided. The workshop is being made possible through a grant provided by the Center for Disease Control.
