Roland Board approves sale of building Bonds, Brunk resigns

By Amie Cato-Remer Editor

The Roland Board of Education took action on a resolution during its Nov. 14 meeting, determining the maturity of and setting the date, time and place for the sale of the $975,000 general obligation building bonds of the school district, and accepted the resignation of school board member Roger Brunk.

The Roland Board of Education took action on a resolution during its Nov. 14 meeting, determining the maturity of and setting the date, time and place for the sale of the $975,000 general obligation building bonds of the school district, and accepted the resignation of school board member Roger Brunk.

President Jerry Brooks made a motion, followed by a second motion from board member Utah Everett, to set Jan. 18, 2023, at 12 p.m. as the date and time for the sale of the bonds, with 11:45 a.m. being the time bids will be due.

Brooks then made a motion, followed by a second motion from vice president Charles Howard, to accept the resignation of board member Roger Brunk and to declare Seat No. 5 as vacant. The members then signed a resolution of the board of education to the County Election Board to call for an election for the empty seat.

Principal Keli Harrell presented the annual drop out report for the 2022-23 school year, along with the annual student college remediation report for 2019.

Superintendent Lori Wiggins discussed the status of board points and handed out forms showing current points. She informed everyone of three incidents/emergency drills/weatherrelated precautions that had occurred in the last month and what the district did well. She also addressed some areas to ensure they get better at responding to any and all emergencies.

Wiggins closed her report with a run down of basketball events and upcoming dates, and announced Mr. O’Neal was traveling to Arizona this week with a small group of students. O’Neal’s students were reportedly invited to showcase their Robotic program, according to meeting minutes.

During the public comment portion of the meeting, Darlene Releford addressed the board concerning a bus matter.

Following an executive session, the board reconvened and announced they were hiring Leslie McGee as a middle/high school cafeteria employee.

Also approved during the meeting were the following: * 2023 school board meeting dates * Stipends for all staff * Agreement between CCOSA and the school for FY ending June 30, 2023 * Changes to travel and expenses for policy/ procedure updates * Contract with J&J School Services for impact aid application contract In financial matters, the board approved all presentations of payroll, encumbrances and warrants for all funds.
