ARKOMA BOYS 61, WEBBERS FALLS 40
The Webbers Falls Warriors and their new head coach Jim Glover are still getting to know each other which, unfortunately, showed with the loss of their inaugural game at home.
“I thought our effort was good,” Glover said. “We just had too many turnovers, gave up too many offensive rebounds and didn’t shoot it well. Each of those three things are bad and they added up against us.
“We just looked like we had some first-game nerves, and we had four guys starting that had never started before and this was their first time getting major minutes for most of ‘em, so we were just a little out of sync.
“ T h e y ’ r e learning a new system and still a little tentative in it, not attacking the way we should.”
Stryker Chappel led the team with 18 points followed by Jaxon Swearigan with 6, Luke Pierce with 5, and Caleb Dishman, Preston Rowe and Blake Rowe with 3 each. Caden Dishman had 2 points.
WEBBERS FALLS GIRLS 67, ARKOMA 17
The Lady Warriors were hitting on all cylinders from the tipoff until the final buzzer, winning their first game 67-17 versus Arkoma at Webbers Falls.
New head coach Jordan Garner has to be happy with his charges’ performance on their first regularseason outing, winning by 50 points.
The Lady Warriors’ lone returning starter seemed to naturally mesh with the four new but experienced starters. Together the Lady Warriors convincingly took command of their home court, producing defensive turnovers by applying a full-court press the Lady Mustangs couldln’t handle.
The girls didn’t trail during their first game, with the Lady Warriors logging 11 three-pointers, making 36% of their three-point attempts. They made 50% of their 2-point attempts, and the defense registering 29 forced turnovers.
“We played really well,” Garner said. “First game, to score 67 points and get 11 three-pointers, we played really well and we played together. That’s what I like about this group. They don’t care who scores or takes the shot, they just go out and play hard and play well together.”
The leading score was Teralynn Colston with 24 points, Bridgette Baer with 12, Abby Pense with 11, Samantha Griffith and Anistyn Garner with 7 each and Bayley Haraway with 6 points.
