Muldrow, Roland sweep openers on the road

Muldrow and Roland’s high school basketball teams swept their season openers on the road Tuesday night at Eufaula and Checotah, respectively.

MULDROW GIRLS 53, EUFAULA 35

The Lady Bulldogs outscored host Eufaula 17-9 in the final eight minutes Tuesday night on their way to their nonconference season-opening win.

In the first period Cailey Grinstead (5 points) made a 3-pointer to help Muldrow take an 11-5 advantage.

Behind the scoring of Grinstead (4 points), Kennedi Wight (3 points) and Katelynn Moore (3-pointer) the Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Ironheads 12-10 in the second stanza.

Muldrow led 23-15 at the intermission. Kennady Moore hit a pair of 3-pointers and Wight recorded three of her team-high 15 points in the third quarter as Muldrow added two points (13-11) to its lead.

In the f o u r t h frame Wight totaled nine points and Grinstead added five and as a team the Lady Bulldogs made 11-of-14 free throws.

Grinstead trailed Wight in scoring with 14 points and also scoring for Muldrow were Kennady Moore (10), Jensi Fields (4), Katelynn Moore and Mason Anstine (3 each), Makynlee Morton (2) and Lani Israel and Claire Tabor (1 apiece).

Eufaula’s Kambry Williams led all scorers with 16 points.

MULDROW BOYS 54, EUFAULA 51 (OT)

The visiting Bulldogs edged Eufaula in overtime Tuesday night after outscoring the Ironheads 11-8 in the extra period.

In the first stanza Trenden Collins recorded four points and Parker Sevenstar hit a 3-pointer to help Muldrow take an 11-7 lead.

Collins totaled five points in the second period but the Ironheads led 21-16 at the intermission after outscoring the Bulldogs 15-5.

In the third quarter Collins (5 points) and Jaxson Anstine each made a 3-pointer as Muldrow erased the deficit (14-8) to take a 30-29 advantage to the fourth.

Andrew Luttrell (3-pointer), Anstine (3 free throws) and Collins recorded three points apiece in the fourth frame but Eufaula’s Riley Morgan made four 3-pointers as the Ironheads sent the game into overtime by slicing a point (14-13) off the deficit.

Collins and Luttrell scored six and five points, respectively, in the extra period.

Scoring for the Bulldogs in the contest were Collins (game-high 23 points), Luttrell (12), Sevenstar (9), Anstine (6) and Kashan Buhkari (4).

Morgan led the Ironheads with 21 points.

ROLAND GIRLS 46, CHECOTAH 28

Three Roland players scored in double figures Tuesday night at Checotah as the Lady Rangers defeated the Lady Wildcats in their season opener.

In the first quarter Addison Cole registered eight points and Haven Freeman (5 points) hit a 3-pointer as the Lady Rangers built a 15-6 advantage.

Cole (5 points) and Kynlei Earnhart each knocked down a 3-pointer in the second stanza to help Roland take a 25-10 lead at the half after outscoring Checotah 10-4.

Lilly Medicine Bird and Earnhart (two 3-pointers) recorded six points apiece in the third period and Freeman added three as the Lady Rangers increased their lead by 13 (15-2).

Checotah trimmed 10 points (16-6) off the deficit in the fourth frame.

Scoring for the Lady Rangers in the contest were Cole (15 points), Freeman (11), Medicine Bird (10), Earnhart (9) and Madison Jetton (1).

Checotah’s Aiyana Brewer led all scorers with 18 points.

ROLAND BOYS 70, CHECOTAH 34

Carson Wiggins and Kyeree Hall scored a combined 30 points Tuesday night at Checotah in the Rangers’ season opener.

Wiggins recorded 11 of his game-high 17 points in the opening frame, Hall added five and Davohn Hall made a 3-pointer as the Rangers built a 22-7 advantage.

In the second stanza Paul Johnson and Buck Triplett each hit a 3 and totaled five points and Ashton Peters made a pair of 2-point baskets to help Roland outscore the Wildcats 18-8.

The Rangers led 40-15 at the half. Each team registered 12 points in the third period and Wiggins scored four points.

In the final frame Roland’s Nate Criswell (5 points) hit a 3-pointer, Kyeree Hall made two field goals and Peters knocked down a 3 as the Rangers increased their advantage (18-7).

Kyeree Hall (13 points) trailed Wiggins in scoring and also recording points for the Rangers were Peters (9 points), Johnson (8), Triplett (7), Davohn Hall and Criswell (5 each) and Peyton Whisenant, Cason Perryman and Landon Keller (2 apiece).

Checotah’s leading scorers were Elijah Thomas and Tyler Corn (10 points each) and Maddox Bridges (9).
