The host Lady Bulldogs topped the Lady Rangers in the first game of the evening before the Rangers prevailed in the nightcap.
MULDROW GIRLS 51, ROLAND 46
The Lady Bulldogs overcame a 14-point halftime deficit by outscoring the Lady Rangers 34-15 in the final two periods as Muldrow improved to 2-0 for the season.
Behind the scoring of Addison Cole (5 points), Lilly Medicine Bird (4) and Kynlei Earnhart (3) the Lady Rangers (11) led 14-12 at the end of the opening quarter. Kennedi Wight and Claire Tabor registered six and four points, respectively, for the Lady Bulldogs.
The Lady Rangers added 12 points (17-5) to their advantage in the second stanza. Cole knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and Earnhart and Laikyn Conaway added a trey apiece for Roland and Muldrow’s Cailey Grinstead totaled three points.
Roland led 31-17 at the intermission. In the third period Wight went 4-for-4 at the foul line and recorded six points, Tabor made a 3 and added five points and Grinstead made three free throws to help the Lady Bulldogs slice 12 points (18-6) off the deficit. Haven Freeman scored four points for the Lady Rangers, who took a 37-35 lead to the fourth quarter.
Wight (7 points), Jensi Fields (4-of- 4 free throws) and Kennady Moore (3 points) were Muldrow’s leading scorers in the final eight minutes as the Lady Bulldogs outscored Roland 16-9. Madison Jetton, Earnhart and Freeman each registered three points for the Lady Rangers.
Wight led all scorers in the contest with 19 points and also scoring for Muldrow were Tabor (9), Grinstead (8), Moore (8) and Mason Anstine and Fields (4 each).
Scoring for Roland were Cole (13 points), Freeman (10), Earnhart (9), Medicine Bird (6), Jetton and Conaway (3 each) and Jazlynn Tehee (2).
Muldrow begins action in the Sequoyah-Tahlequah Invitational Tournament against Howe on Thursday morning and Roland does not play again until Dec. 13 when it hosts Poteau.
ROLAND BOYS 66, MULDROW 45
The visiting Rangers (2-0 for the season) broke open a close game by outscoring the Bulldogs (1-1) 27-12 in the third quarter Friday night at Muldrow.
Muldrow led 13-12 after the first eight minutes as Jaxson Anstine (4 points) and Trenden Collins and Parker Sevenstar (3 each) paced the Bulldogs’ scorers. Ashton Peters (7 points) and Paul Johnson (3) were Roland’s top scorers in the first.
In the second stanza Peters recorded three of his game-high 22 points to help the Rangers erase the deficit (11-9) and take a 23-22 advantage at the half. Collins, who registered a team-high 21 points in the contest, totaled eight in the period.
Peters (three 3-pointers), Kyeree Hall (trey and 9 points) and Davohn Hall (6 points) were Roland’s top scorers in the third quarter as the Rangers added 15 points to their advantage. Collins and Drew Prewett scored five points apiece for the Bulldogs, who trailed 50-34 entering the fourth.
In the final frame Kyeree Hall and Peyton Whisenant scored five and four points, respectively, and Peters knocked down his sixth 3-pointer of the game to help the Rangers widen (16-11) their lead. Collins and Josten Henson (4 points each) and Prewett (3) scored Muldrow’s points in the fourth.
Trailing Peters in scoring for the Rangers were Kyeree Hall (16 points), Davohn Hall (8), Carson Wiggins (6), Whisenant and Johnson (5 each) and Cason Perryman (2).
Prewett (8 points), Anstine (5), Henson (4), Sevenstar (3) and Andrew Luttrell and Kenoy Releford (2 each) trailed Collins in scoring for the Bulldogs.
The Rangers host Poteau on Dec. 13 in their next game and the Bulldogs take on Howe Thursday morning in the Sequoyah-Tahlequah Invitational Tournament.
