Six Sequoyah County Detention Center inmates were charged with felony aggravated assault and battery after reportedly acting in concert and attacking another inmate incarcerated in the jail.
Kenneth R. Goad III, 26, of Sallisaw, Ryan C. Chronister, 40, of Muldrow, Devin Kutil, 28, of Sallisaw, Michael Mosher, 30, of Tulsa, Joseph A. White III, 35, of Muldrow, and Timothy Schilling, 29, of Muldrow, were each charged on Nov. 23 in Sequoyah County District Court.
Sequoyah County Sheriff ’s deputy Brian Stone reported at noon on Nov. 14 he was asked to come to the jail to take a report of assault and battery that occurred in the jail between inmates. Stone said he was told six inmates had attacked another inmate, inflicting the inmate with a broken nose and his teeth being knocked out, according to the probable cause affidavit.
The jail incident report states the jail shift supervisor saw the fight occurring in the left pod of the jail and radioed for help. Jail personnel found the inmate on the ground with Chronister reportedly standing in front of the inmate. Once the inmates were locked down, the injured inmate was taken out of the jail and given medical attention.
Surveillance video reportedly shows White, Kutil, Mosher, and Chronister standing about 10 feet from the inmate who was in the corner, with them all facing the inmate and talking to him. About 10 seconds later, Mosher is seen walking up and swinging a closed fist at the inmate and the inmate swings back. Kutil, Goad, Schilling, Chronister, and White are then seen rushing over and jumping in the fight.
The inmates were all placed in pinks and into a jail cell together, according to the affidavit.
District Attorney Jack Thorp said if found guilty of the charge, it is punishable by up to five years in the penitentiary or up to one year in county jail or up to a $500 fine, or both.
