Muldrow grabs pair of NOAA wins at Poteau

Muldrow claimed a pair of NOAA games at Poteau Tuesday night inside Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.

Muldrow claimed a pair of NOAA games at Poteau Tuesday night inside Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.

Muldrow girls 59, Poteau 29 The Lady Bulldogs led 30-10 at the half Tuesday night on their way to the decisive conference win over the Lady Pirates.

Kennedi Wight hit a pair of 2-point field goals and totaled six points in the opening period to help the Lady Bulldogs go in front 14-2.

Cailey Grinstead (5 points) and Carmen Fields each hit a 3-pointer in the second stanza and Lani Israel registered four points on two field goals as Muldrow increased its advantage by eight (16-8). Brooklyn Garner and Brooke Hattabaugh recorded four and three points, respectively, for Poteau in the period.

In the third stanza Grinstead knocked down two 3-pointers, Wight scored four points and Makynlee Morton hit a 3 for the Lady Bulldogs, who outscored Poteau 17-6. Britlee Reed made a pair of 3-pointers for the Lady Pirates, who entered the fourth trailing 47-16.

Muldrow’s Kennady Moore (4 points) and Morton (3) and Poteau’s Savanna Bryan (6) led their respective teams in scoring in the final eight minutes.

Grinstead led all scorers with 12 points and also recording points for the Lady Bulldogs were Wight (10), Israel, Mason Anstine, Morton and Kennady Moore (6 each), Carmen and Maysi Fields (3 apiece), Claire Tabor, Jensi Fields and Addison Allen (2 each) and Katelynn Moore (1).

Poteau’s top five scorers were Reed (8 points), Bryan (6), Garner (4) and Chyanne Brickell and Hattabaugh (3 each).

The Lady Bulldogs, who are currently playing in the Sequoyah-Tahlequah Invitational Tournament, host Spiro on Tuesday night.

Muldrow boys 40, Poteau 33 The Bulldogs overcame a third-period deficit by outscoring the host Pirates 17-9 in the final period Tuesday night to claim the NOAA victory.

In the opening quarter Trenden Collins hit a 3-pointer and totaled seven points as the Bulldogs took an 11-8 advantage.

Collins made a pair of 2-point baskets in the second stanza but the Pirates erased the deficit (12-6) to lead 20-17 at the intermission.

Andrew Luttrell hit two 2-point field goals for the Bulldogs in the third quarter to help slice two points (6-4) off the deficit. Muldrow trailed 24-23 at the start of the fourth.

In the final eight minutes Collins went 6-for-6 at the foul line while scoring 10 points and Luttrell knocked down a 3 points and recorded five points as the Bulldogs outscored the Pirates by eight.

Collins led all scorers with 23 points and also registering points for the Bulldogs were Luttrell (11), Parker Sevenstar (4) and Trenton Irvan (2).

The Bulldogs, who are currently playing in the Sequoyah-Tahlequah Invitational Tournament, take on Spiro at home Tuesday night.
