The Sallisaw Lady Diamonds racked up another win Tuesday when they visited the Spiro Lady Bulldogs, giving Sallisaw an undefeated record in three games this season.
The Lady Diamonds started strong, with Ellie Martin leading the way with aggressive attacks on the basket that enabled her to hit three field goals in the first quarter.
Addyson Gream made herself known by controlling the paint, putting her in position to get rebounds, and she added two buckets that contributed to Sallisaw taking a 14-2 lead by the end of the first frame.
Sallisaw head coach Greg Scott pressed the Bulldogs early and often, allowing his talented squad to take control of the game early.
“Ellie Martin was extremely aggressive on the offensive end by attacking the basket, scoring in a variety of ways,” Scott said. “Addyson Gream controlled the paint with inside scoring and rebounds.”
Going into the second stanza, Martin was on fire, making 100% of her field goal attempts, contributing nine points to the Lady Diamonds’ 11 points in the quarter, which was offset by Spiro’s 12.
Going into the locker room, Sallisaw owned a 25-14 advantage, and started the second half making a statement on defense.
“Molly Carver and Kayli Macon set the tone for us defensively to start of the second half, with three steals to help us increase the lead,” Scott noted.
With treys by Emily Gregory, Carver and Paige Diffee, along with twopointers by Martin, Gream and Macon, the Lady Diamonds put 22 more points on the board, outpacing the Bulldogs’ eight points in the third period.
Sallisaw finished strong, outscoring Spiro 11-4 in the fourth quarter, adding another victory to the Lady Diamonds’ season.
