Gans takes a win, Central lost to Red Oak

SALLISAW 59, SPIRO 26

The Sallisaw Lady Diamonds racked up another win Tuesday when they visited the Spiro Lady Bulldogs, giving Sallisaw an undefeated record in three games this season.

The Lady Diamonds started strong, with Ellie Martin leading the way with aggressive attacks on the basket that enabled her to hit three field goals in the first quarter.

Addyson Gream made herself known by controlling the paint, putting her in position to get rebounds, and she added two buckets that contributed to Sallisaw taking a 14-2 lead by the end of the first frame.

Sallisaw head coach Greg Scott pressed the Bulldogs early and often, allowing his talented squad to take control of the game early.

“Ellie Martin was extremely aggressive on the offensive end by attacking the basket, scoring in a variety of ways,” Scott said. “Addyson Gream controlled the paint with inside scoring and rebounds.”

Going into the second stanza, Martin was on fire, making 100% of her field goal attempts, contributing nine points to the Lady Diamonds’ 11 points in the quarter, which was offset by Spiro’s 12.

Going into the locker room, Sallisaw owned a 25-14 advantage, and started the second half making a statement on defense.

“Molly Carver and Kayli Macon set the tone for us defensively to start of the second half, with three steals to help us increase the lead,” Scott noted.

With treys by Emily Gregory, Carver and Paige Diffee, along with twopointers by Martin, Gream and Macon, the Lady Diamonds put 22 more points on the board, outpacing the Bulldogs’ eight points in the third period.

Sallisaw finished strong, outscoring Spiro 11-4 in the fourth quarter, adding another victory to the Lady Diamonds’ season.

Martin finished with 15 points and 5 rebounds, and Gream posted a doubledouble with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The next game for the Lady Diamonds is 6:30 p.m. today at Stigler.

WEBBERS FALLS 56, SCHULTER 15

The Lady Warriors are starting the season on a winning streak, with their latest victory coming Tuesday at the Wilson Tiger Classic tournament to up their record to 3-0 on the year.

In Webbers Falls’ blowout of Schulter, the first quarter ended with a respectable 16-9 lead for the Lady Warriors, led by Bridgette Baer’s impressive three-point hat trick, along with another basket tacked on for good measure.

In the second stanza, Webbers Falls really came alive, with five players contributing to its powerful 21-0 statement, an outburst that gave them a commanding lead at the half.

After halftime, the Lady Warriors’ defense dominated in the third period, holding the Tigers scoreless, while the Webbers Falls offense registered 16 points to put the game on ice.

With the game firmly in control, head coach Jordan Garner began rotating non-starting players into the game to give them valuable experience that creates bench depth for future games.

Schulter managed to outdistance Webbers Falls in the fourth frame, 4-3, but the verdict was sealed.

The Lady Warriors played Maud in the second round of the Wilson Tiger Classic tournament Thursday afternoon.

GANS 59, BOKOSHE 9

The Lady Grizzlies won handily Tuesday against the visiting Bokoshe Tigers, registering the win with a 50-point margin.

In the lopsided game, Gans head coach Laney James gave quality minutes to players that wouldn’t normally get to play if the game was close.

By the end of the first quarter, Gans was ahead 23-2, enroute to a 35-2 bulge by halftime.

The Lady Grizzlies easily outscored the Tigers in the third and fourth quarters to win going away.

The next game is the county rivalry at nearby Central at 6:30 p.m. today.

RED OAK 40, CENTRAL 29

The Central Lady Tigers lost their second game on the road Tuesday at Red Oak, dipping their record to 0-2 on the year.

Central struggled early against the more experienced Hawks, managing only two points to Red Oak’s 11 points.

The Lady Tigers outscored Red Oak 16-11 in the second stanza, trimming the Hawks’ advantage to 22-18 headed into the locker room at the half.

During the second half, Red Oak accrued 13 points while holding Central to seven in the third period.

Unfortunately, Central didn’t find a way to recover in the fourth frame, as Red Oak outdistanced the Lady Tigers in the final quarter, 5-4.

The season is early and the Lady Tigers are gaining experience, so they hope to be playing their best when the season demands it.

The Lady Tigers host local rival Gans for their home opener at 6:30 p.m. today.
