Bulldogs win Sequoyah Tourney, Lady Bulldogs finish second

The Muldrow High School boysʼ basketball team defeated Choctaw Central (Miss.) 75-73 Saturday night inside the Sequoyah gymnasium at Tahlequah to win the Sequoyah Invitational Tournament.

“There were a bunch of good teams in the tournament,” Muldrow head coach Terry Collins said. “It was a good tournament.

“The championship game was a hard-fought game. We had a little bit of a lead and we had to compose ourselves to come out with the win. It was a great game. Trenden (Collins) had 42 (points) in that game.”

Muldrow boys 75, Choctaw Central 73 (Saturday) Trenden Collins scored 19 of his game-high 42 points in the final eight minutes Saturday night to help the Bulldogs erase a third-period deficit and defeat the Warriors in the tournamentʼs title game.

In the opening quarter Andrew Luttrell (9 points) and Collins each made a 3-pointer and Parker Sevenstar hit a pair of field goals as the Bulldogs went in front 18-14.

Collins registered 11 of Muldrowʼs 13 points in the second stanza but the Warriors sliced two points (1513) off the deficit.

Muldrow led 31-29 at the half.

Choctaw Central outscored the Bulldogs 28-18 in the third period. Collins (9 points) and Drew Prewett (5) were the leading scorers in the quarter for Muldrow, which went to the fourth trailing 57-49.

Collins went 9-for-9 at the foul line in the fourth frame and Nick Rhodes and Jaxson Anstine each knocked down a 3-pointer as the Bulldogs outscored the Warriors 27-16.

Trailing Collins in scoring for Muldrow were Luttrell (11 points), Prewett (7), Rhodes (5), Sevenstar and Kenoy Releford (4 apiece) and Anstine (3).

Muldrow improved to 5-1 for the season with the victory.

Muldrow boys 44, Sequoyah 33 (Friday) The Bulldogs advanced to the championship game Friday night an 11-point win over the host Indians.

Muldrow led 8-3 at the end of the opening stanza and 22-18 at the intermission after Sequoyah outscored the Bulldogs 15-14 in the second period. Trenden Collins recorded 11 points in the second and Kashan Buhkari hit a 3-pointer for the Bulldogs.

In the third frame Andrew Luttrell made three 2-point baskets as Muldrow added five points (10-5) to its advantage. The Bulldogs entered the fourth leading 3223.

Parker Sevenstar and Jaxon Anstine registered six and four points, respectively, in the final eight minutes to help the Bulldogs outscore Sequoyah 1210.

Muldrow’s scorers in the game were Collins (17 points), Anstine and Sevenstar (8 each), Luttrell (6), Buhkari (3) and Nick Rhodes (2).

Muldrow boys 50, Howe 39 (Thursday) Muldrow started tournament play with an 11-point victory over the Lions Thursday.

The Bulldogs led 24-19 at the half after outscoring Howe 16-12 and 8-7 in the first two periods. In the first stanza Trenden Collins (10 points) made a pair of 3-pointers and Kashan Buhkari hit a 3-pointer for Muldrow in the second.

Muldrow’s Parker Sevenstar knocked down three 2-point field goals in the third quarter as the Bulldogs added three points (12-9) to their advantage.

Andrew Luttrell (7 points) and Nick Rhodes each hit a 3-pointer in the final frame and Drew Prewett added three points for the Bulldogs, who widened their lead (15-12).

Collins led all scorers in the contest with 16 points and trailing him were Luttrell (12), Sevenstar (6), Rhodes (5), Maliki Albertson (4), Buhkari and Prewett (3 each) and Kenoy Releford (2).

Lady Bulldogs The Lady Bulldogs (5-1) lost 61-47 to Riverside Indian School in the title game Saturday night at Sequoyah. Riverside is located near Anadarko.

Muldrow defeated Howe 70-33 in its tournament opener on Thursday before beating Cherokee (N.C.) 58-42 in its semifinal contest on Friday.
