Sallisaw boys and girls extend winning streak at Stigler

The Sallisaw boys extended their winning streak to three at Stigler Friday night with another win under coach Chadd Gehrke’s new system.

The Stigler Panthers were able to briefly pull ahead at the start of the game but Jackson Obregon’s two threepointers along with Sim Kilpatrick’s three points gave the Black Diamonds a narrow 9-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.

With Kilpatrick making the long ball, getting two treys and the team’s shooting from the line, making 5 of 8, and baskets by Cooper Carter and Obregon the Black Diamonds were in a point-for-point match in the second quarter to keep their 22-21 lead going into halftime.

The Panthers came out of the half with a little gas and were able to pull ahead by making 18 points while Kilpatrick made 6 of 7 from the line and a threepointer while Parker Jackson went 2 of 4 from the line as the Black Diamonds registered 15 points in the third frame.

In the last frame of the contest Obregon made 10 points, Kilpatrick added seven, Braxton Lamb totaled three and Jackson hit a free throw as Sallisaw pulled back into the lead with 21 points.

Kilpatrick was on fire registering an impressive 25 points and Obregon wasn’t far behind putting 19 on the board and the defense did their job and kept the shooters down in the stretch.

“Sim shot the ball really well last night from three and the free throw line,” Gehrke said. “Obi (Obregon) took two huge charges.

“Second half we came out running a different offense and were very patient with it. This brought their 3-2 out farther and allowed us to do a little more against it. Defensively we got out of our zone and only played man.”

The Black Diamonds host rival Muldrow on Friday night.

Sallisaw girls 62, Stigler 52

The Sallisaw girls extended their season’s early winning streak to 4-0 with a 10-point victory at Stigler Friday.

The Lady Diamonds take on Muldrow at home Friday night.
