Trinity UM Church honors two members in December

By SUBMITTED BY REPORTER: AUDRA SARGENT EDITOR: LAVONNA SMITH

In the past month, we lost two beloved members of Trinity United Methodist Church. Martha O. Johnson passed away Nov. 7, 2022, in Broken Arrow and Mary Beatrice ‘Bea’ Allen passed away Dec. 7, 2022, in Tahlequah.

The Cross and Flame

In the past month, we lost two beloved members of Trinity United Methodist Church. Martha O. Johnson passed away Nov. 7, 2022, in Broken Arrow and Mary Beatrice ‘Bea’ Allen passed away Dec. 7, 2022, in Tahlequah.

For years, since meeting at Trinity UMC and becoming friends, you barely saw one of these women without the other being in the area. Bea and Martha worked tirelessly around the church, from running the yard sale for the United Methodist Women’s Fall Festival fundraiser to working in the church Food Pantry handing out food to local families in need of assistance.

They also worked with the Oklahoma Food Bank community deliveries, giving out food at Belfonte School, Muldrow/ Roland Trinity United Methodist Church, The Jones Center in Roland, and First United Methodist Church in Sallisaw. Whether going to lunch, attending Sunday School or quilting with the Kozi Quilters, Bea and Martha were each other’s best friend and constant companion, until Martha had a stroke in 2021 and was relocated to Broken Arrow to be closer to one of her daughters. Bea made the trip from Muldrow to Broken Arrow several times to visit with her friend, as distance couldn’t break the special bond these two women had. They passed away exactly one month apart.

Trinity UMC and their many friends and family members will miss Bea and Martha, but rejoice in the knowledge that they can be together again and have no pain or illness. We are grateful to have known and worked with these two faithful servants.

Helping Hands Food Pantry Building Update Our Helping Hands Food Pantry Building is operational and completed. Our cooler room is 12’ by 16’, with the only part missing being the air conditioner, which was done on Dec. 12.

Because of their work for years in our Helping Hands Food Pantry, when the building was nearing completion, a motion was brought up to the Administrative Council and approved to name the building, Mary B. Allen & Martha O. Johnson Food Pantry.
