Lloyd Smith, 42, was charged Dec. 1 in Sequoyah County District Court with escape from arrest or detention and is now scheduled for a Jan. 4, 2023 felony disposition docket before Associate District Judge Kyle Waters.
Roland Police officer Chris Waters reported on the afternoon of Nov. 29 he was dispatched to the city shop and wastewater plant on Sequoyah Street regarding an inmate whom escaped.
Smith, who was reportedly working as a trustee with animal control officer Rocky Raney, was doing sludge work when he ran from the area, according to the probable cause affidavit.
Raney said he stepped away to make a phone call at about 12:30 p.m. and when he went back to check on Smith’s progress about 10 minutes later, he noticed Smith was gone and had left in an unknown direction.
The affidavit states Smith was arrested on Nov. 25 and charged with possession of marijuana, a controlled dangerous substance and drug paraphernalia. On Nov. 28 he pled guilty to the charges through the City of Roland and was told he could work as a trustee.
District Attorney Jack Thorp said if found guilty the crime is punishable by up to one year imprisonment and/or a fine of up to $500, or two year imprisonment and/or a fine of up to $1,000.
