Vian falls to Eufaula in roundball openers

Vian dropped a pair of non-conference games at home to Eufaula Friday night inside Traw Fieldhouse in the Lady Wolverines and Wolverinesʼ season openers.

Eufaula girls 56, Vian 21 The Lady Ironheads broke open a tight game by scoring 23 points in the second period on their way to their second win (2-1) of the season Friday night.

Vianʼs Maci Smith made a 2-point field goal in the opening quarter but Eufaula went in front 10-3.

Eufaulaʼs Kambry Williams knocked down three 3-pointers in the second stanza to help the Lady Ironheads add 18 points to their advantage.

Smith and Skyelar Locust recorded two points apiece for the Lady Wolverines.

In the third quarter Vianʼs Avery Wright went 2-for-2 at the foul line and hit a pair of 2-point baskets but Eufaula outscored the Lady Wolverines 12-10.

The Lady Ironheads increased their advantage by eight (11-3) in the final frame and Locust scored Vianʼs points at the foul line.

Wright scored a team-high seven points and also registering points for Vian were Smith (6), Locust (5), Rebel Simon (2) and Kala Gibbins (1).

Shyanne Madewell and Williams led Eufaulaʼs scorers with 14 and 13 points, respectively.

Eufaula boys 42, Vian 38 The Wolverines sliced seven points off a 21-10 halftime deficit in the second two periods Friday night but the Ironheads (1-2) hung on to register the non-conference victory.

Vianʼs Yonsi Grass knocked down a 3-pointer in the opening quarter but Talon Weaverʼs two 2-point field goals helped Eufaula take a 12-5 lead.

Kʼden Richardson totaled three points in the second stanza for the Wolverines while Jentry James made a 3-pointer for the Ironheads, who led by 11 at the intermission after increasing its advantage by four (9-5).

Grass (7 points), Richardson and Diego Ramos each hit a 3-pointer in the third frame as Vian trimmed three points (1310) off the deficit to make the score 3123 entering the fourth. Jake Parish made two 3ʼs for Eufaula in the period.

Richardson (6 points), Ramos (5) and Grass (4) led the way offensively for the Wolverines in the final frame as Vian sliced four more points (15-11) off the deficit. Keaton Parish recorded seven points for the Ironheads in the quarter.

Grass scored a game-high 16 points in the contest and Richardson (12) and Ramos also registered points for the Wolverines.

Eufaulaʼs top five scorers were Keaton Parish (9 points), Weaver and James (8 each) and Landon Mills and Jake Parish (6 apiece).

The Vian girls and boysʼ teams host Oktaha Friday night beginning at 6 p.m.
