The Class A Webbers Falls Warriors earned their biggest win of the season so far Saturday in a come-from-behind victory in the consolation final of the Wilson Tiger Classic tournament. Three Warriors reached double digits in scoring against Schulter for the win that advanced their record to 2-3 for the season.

The Schulter Bulldogs were able to rack up an impressive lead, outscoring the Warriors in the first quarter, with the Bulldogsʼ Bobby Calhoun making a pair of three-pointers and two from the free throw line, with Sameron Vineyardʼs four points giving Wilson a 14-7 lead. The Warriorsʼ Maddux Shelby registered three points, and Styker Chappell added two points to help Webbers Falls stay in the game.

In the second quarter, Webbers Falls doubled its offensive output, with Luke Pierce hitting a trey, Caden Dishman getting two from the line, and Chappell making seven points for the quarter. The Bulldogsʼ offense answered the call with 16 points in the second stanza via a lot of outside shooting that produced three treys and increased the Schulter lead to 30-21 going into the half.

New Warriors head coach Jim Glover must have said the right things in the locker room, because Webbers Falls turned it up a notch after halftime, with Dishman making seven points, Shebly adding five and Chappell contributing four in the third quarter. This time, the Warriorsʼ defense stood fast, limiting the Bulldogs to seven points in the third stanza, which shifted the momentum to the Webbers Falls bench and produced a narrow two-point lead going into the fourth quarter.

Chappell saw his fair share of time at the free throw line in the final frame, making 8 of 12 from the line. Pierce added five points to wrap up the game. The Bulldogsʼ offense struggled again in the fourth stanza, getting three points against an improved Warrior defense.

The Warriorsʼ record improved to 2-3 for the season, with Chappell, Pierce and Shelby scoring double digits, and Dishman added nine points.

The Warriors have road games this week at Okay on Tuesday and at Oaks Mission at 8 p.m. Friday.

Webbers Falls Girls 46, Wilson 37 The Class A Lady Warriors extended their winning streak by winning the Wilson Tiger Classic tournament Saturday against Wilson for their first tournament victory of the season.

The win extends the Lady Warriorsʼ record to 5-0 for the season, and new head coach Jordan Garner is pleased with the way the team is playing this early in the season.

“We played Wilson, and it was kind of back and forth. They have a 6ʼ1” post girl, and we did a really good job,” Garner explained. “Samantha Griffith did a really good job with her, and Bayley Haraway did as well, and Abby Pense, too — they did a good job of defending her, and she scored just three buckets and two free throws so she ended up with just eight. The third quarter, we outscored Ê»em 218, and that was kinda the difference. We just came out and played really well in the third quarter.”

In the first quarter, Anistyn Garner, Samantha Griffith and Teralynn Colston were able to shoot from the outside and made a three-pointer, with Abby Pense and Colston getting a bucket that for Webbers Falls. The Lady Warriorsʼ defense locked it down, allowing the Lady Tigers just four points in the first stanza.

In the second quarter, the Lady Warriorsʼ defense struggled, with Janelle Proctor making 10 points along with three other Lady Tigers. Garner registered seven points, along with a free throw by Griffith to tie the game at 21 going into the locker rooms at halftime.

Coming out the halftime break, the Lady Warriors were on a three-point mission, with Colston making two treys and a pair of two-pointers. Garner added two treys and a bucket, along with a trey byGriffith to give Webbers Falls 21 points for the quarter. The Lady Tigersʼ offense wasnʼt able to keep up, registering only eight points, giving Wilson a 13 point deficit going into the last stanza.

The Lady Tigers put eight on the board in the final frame, which was too little too late, while Webbers Falls posted four points to give the Lady Warriors a ninepoint edge at the final buzzer.

The Lady Warriors are on the road this week, with a game at Okay on Tuesday and at Oaks Mission at 6 p.m. Friday.
