It’s a mixed bag for Central at Howe

The Central Tigers improved their record to 2-2 with a win Tuesday at Howe, as Centralʼs Adain Sainer led all scorers in the Class 2A contest with 24 points.

Centralʼs Isaac Rogers and Devon Baggs each scored two points to support Sainerʼs nine points toward the Tigersʼ 14 points in the first quarter. Howeʼs Kobe Wooten hit a three-pointer and Braden Blake made three buckets for the Lions to trail by five points going into the second stanza.

Howe scored 10 points in the second quarter, with Blake and Kyler Brown registering four points each. Meanwhile, Hardy Buzzard paced Central in the period with five points, combined with Josh Marino and Sainer registering four apiece. Connor Waltersʼ trey helped improve the Tigersʼ lead to 13 going into halftime at 32-19.

The Lions came out of the locker room ready to play in the third period, outscoring the Tigers, 20-8. Cade Tucker, Buzzard, Sainer and Baggs each scored a field goal in the third quarter.

With the Tigers edging out a one-point lead going into the final period, the Lions scored 11 points, while sending Central on the free throw line a lot, to Howeʼs regret. The Tigers sank 10 of their 13 free throw attempts enroute to 16 points.

The Tigers are on the road playing Westville at 7:30 p.m. today.

Howe girls 69, Central 45

The Class 2A second-ranked Lady Lions were too much for the Lady Tigers to contain Tuesday at Howe, as the Lady Tigersʼ record dipped to 1-3.

The Central girls are at Westville Friday for a 6:30 p.m. tipoff.
