Appreciation and pride in community
Dear Editor, This past Saturday, Gore HS Football Team competed at the highest level in class A football in Oklahoma, the state championship game in Edmond. This game was the finally of a 14-0 season the Pirates amassed. Throughout the five week playoff duration, the community of Gore and even Webbers Falls showed out in force, week after week, to support our team.
Local businesses, individuals, and churches provided meals for the team, cheer, and band several times each week.
The streets of our town are lined with signage and banners. Store fronts are decorated in Green and White with footballs. Yards and lots are adorned with messages of pride and encouragement for our team.
Local fire and police have escorted our team out of town and met them upon return to escort them back to our campus. Our local radio station Mix 105.1 has covered every playoff game as well as Jim Cameron at the Sequoyah County Times.
The list is endless of all the efforts made to support our team and coaches.
While the run for the gold championship ball fell short, no community could be prouder of our football team and coaches.
History has been made in Gore this season and will not soon be forgotten. The silver ball will be proudly displayed in our event center for all to see.
Our motto is “Pirate Pride” and these past five weeks of outstanding support shows what this truly means.
Thank you to all our community for showing our team the true meaning of Home Town Pride.
LUCKY MCCRARY, GORE SCHOOLS SUPERINTENDENT
