Muldrow sweeps conference contests against Spiro

Muldrowʼs high school basketball teams topped Spiro in a pair of Northeastern Oklahoma Athletic Association (NOAA) games Tuesday night at home inside the Roger Sharp Activity Center.

Muldrowʼs high school basketball teams topped Spiro in a pair of Northeastern Oklahoma Athletic Association (NOAA) games Tuesday night at home inside the Roger Sharp Activity Center.

Muldrow girls 65, Spiro 41 Class 4A No. 11 Muldrow outscored the visiting Lady Bulldogs 32-17 in the second half Tuesday night at home to register the NOAA win and improve to 6-1 for the season.

In the first period Muldrowʼs Kennedi Wright scored eight of her game-high 25 points and Lani Israel (5 points), Claire Tabor (4) and Jensi Fields (3) registered 12 of MHSʼ 22 points. Wight, Israel and Fields each made a 3-pointer in the quarter and Brynleigh Graham scored four of Spiroʼs 12 points.

Wight (5 points) and Carmen Fields (3) each hit a 3-pointer in the second stanza but Spiro sliced a point (12-11) off the deficit.

Muldrow led 33-24 at the intermission. In the third quarter Wight scored 10 points to help the host Lady Bulldogsʼ increase their advantage by six (14-8).

Cailey Grinstead (6 points) and Kennady Moore and Israel (3-pointer apiece) were Muldrowʼs leading scorers in the final frame as MHS outscored the visiting Lady Bulldogs 18-9.

Trailing Wight in scoring for Muldrow were Tabor (9 points), Israel and Grinstead (8 each), Carmen and Jensi Fields (5 apiece), Moore (3) and Mason Anstine (2).

Graham led Spiro (3-2) in scoring with 18 points.

Muldrow boys 57, Spiro 47 The host Bulldogs (6-1) claimed their fifth-straight win of the season Tuesday night at Muldrow by downing Spiro (05) in an NOAA game.

Muldrowʼs Trenden Collins recorded seven of his game-high 27 points in the first stanza to help MHS take a 16-8 lead. Parker Sevenstar made three 2-point baskets for the host Bulldogs and Kashan Buhkari hit a 3-pointer.

In the second period Andrew Luttrell (5 points) and Collins (4) each knocked down a 3-pointer but Spiro trimmed two points (13-11) off the deficit.

Muldrow led 27-21 at the half. Collins registered seven points in the third quarter and Jaxson Anstine hit two 3-pointers to help Muldrow increase its advantage by four (15-11).

Each team scored 15 points in the final frame. Collins (9 points) made his fourth and fifth 3-pointers of the contest in the period and Luttrell added four points.

Trailing Collins in scoring for Muldrow were Sevenstar (10 points), Luttrell (9), Anstine (6), Buhkari (3) and Reece Francis (2).

Brycen Graham and Zander Riggs were Spiroʼs leading scorers with 17 and 12 points, respectively.
