News from Trinity United Methodist Church

By SUBMITTED BY REPORTER: AUDRA SARGENT EDITOR: LAVONNA SMITH

Trinity Missions Fundraisers The Trinity Missions Fundraisers had their first official fundraiser. Holiday Helper Fundraiser was held on Nov. 19. It included a bake sale, Christmas items, craft items, gift-wrapping and lunch, with lots of delicious food. We had several people from the community buy booths to sell craft items. Everyone had fun and fellowship together. The proceeds from this fundraiser went toward the purchase of two new heating and air units for the church.

The Cross and Flame

Trinity Missions Fundraisers The Trinity Missions Fundraisers had their first official fundraiser. Holiday Helper Fundraiser was held on Nov. 19. It included a bake sale, Christmas items, craft items, gift-wrapping and lunch, with lots of delicious food. We had several people from the community buy booths to sell craft items. Everyone had fun and fellowship together. The proceeds from this fundraiser went toward the purchase of two new heating and air units for the church.

Currently, we have no fundraisers planned, but hope to continue in the new year. Keep watch for more information. Adult Game Night

Our group of adults, who play Mexican Train dominoes on Sunday nights at 5 p.m. are still having a blast. We play men against the women, with the lowest score winning. The winners always vary, we’re getting to the point that even if it looks like one side will win; halfway through the night the other side will rally back to take the championship. We enjoy lots of banter back and forth between the teams. If you need a good laugh and a stress reliever, COME PLAY WITH US!

Pastor’s Bible Study

Pastor Don Jones leads a Bible Study, which is open to anyone not just our church members, every Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the library at Trinity UMC. We are a growing group, of adults and youth from multiple denominations, studying the Bible and having discussions over what we’ve read. Attendance has been around 22 people.

Ladies Luncheon

One of our church’s ministries is a Ladies Luncheon, held on the third Thursday of every month at 11:15 a.m.

Our youth sing and entertain for the ladies attending; they are amazing singers and listening to them will be a true blessing for you. Pastor Don gives a devotional and blesses our gathering. Additionally, he has been having a special activity each month. During the luncheon, he eats and visits with the ladies.

Please come join in the fun and fellowship; you may even win a prize. When wishing to attend, we ask that you please RSVP by the Tuesday before, by calling 918-427-4151.

There will be no luncheon in December due to being so close to Christmas, we decided to give our workers a holiday vacation. The fun will resume on Jan. 19, 2023.

Helping Hands Food Pantry The ultimate goal of the Trinity United Methodist Church Helping Hands Food Pantry has always been to help those in need before they can even ask. Distribution of food, to those in need, is on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Call the church office at 918-427-4151 to schedule a pick-up time.

The Helping Hands Food Pantry has become the heartbeat of Trinity United Methodist Church. It allows the church to do what has always been the ultimate goal of any church: to help the community and spread love.

There will be no food distribution on Tuesday December 13, 2022, due to a funeral.

Need a ride to church?

On Sunday mornings, if you would like to come to church, AJ Henshaw and his wife, Christine, can pick you up, in our church van. If you need a ride, call the church office at 918-427-4151 to schedule pickup, during office hours; Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Youth Group News

Wednesday nights from 7 to 9 p.m. is the time to celebrate our Youth. We welcome all children and youth ages 8 and up. A meal is served at 7 p.m., including a variety of foods. There is a signup sheet on the cork board in the hall across from the kitchen if you’d like to help provide food.

After eating, there is a lesson. Games are played for the fun part of the evening and the pastor joins them. Beginning on Sept. 21, we began including younger children ages 8 through 11 with a separate lesson, then joining the older youth for games. Attendance for our Youth Group on Wednesday nights has been between 18-22 children and youth.

If interested in attending, call 918427-4151. Christmas Program and Pageant Our annual church Christmas program and pageant will be held on Sunday, Dec. 18, at 5 p.m. in the sanctuary at Trinity United Methodist Church.

The program will consist of special music from several people in the church and some skits from our different adult Sunday School classes. The children and youth of our church will present the Nativity story, with songs and narration. All of this will lead up to us wishing Jesus a happy birthday. Afterwards, there will be snacks in the Fellowship Hall, along with a special visitor.

Kozi Quilters

Our church hosts a group, who meet once a week, for fellowship and quilting. They have been a part of our church for many years, using the building. The quilts made are donated in the local area.

This mission has grown over the years, where instead of having the need for a couple of cabinets in one room, they’ve acquired several cabinets, which have been placed in various rooms around the church.

In November, the Quilter’s President attended the Administrative Council meeting and asked if they could have part of one classroom for use.

A motion was made and approved to let the Quilters use the entire classroom, which was previously used for Food Pantry storage. This approval meant that they could relocate all of their storage cabinets into one location, instead of on different sides of the church.

Our Special Blessings

Our relationship began in June of 2022 with Marvin’s IGA, when we were promoting our Helping Hands Food Pantry fundraisers. Shortly after that initial meeting, we received food items, which included canned goods, toothpaste, socks and other items we buy every day at the store.

After a couple of months, Marvin’s was purchased by Harps Grocery. At that time, we made a connection with the bakery. Since then, we have been receiving bakery items one to two times a week.

We have given these items to those in our church, groups that meet in our church and have delivered to our friends and neighbors. For many who have received these, it is an addition to their food items they could not otherwise afford to purchase.

This has been a true blessing for our church. We appreciate Harp’s generosity for providing these food items. This week, the Harps manager had a big surprise for us. He gave us over 20 Blessing Bags to give out. These bags include non-perishable items, such as vegetables, macaroni/cheese, soups and oatmeal, among other items.

Muldrow/Roland Trinity United Methodist Church is located at 1601 East Shawntel Smith Blvd in Muldrow. Office hours are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, call 918-427-4151.
