Roland takes two NOAA games from Poteau

Roland girls 51, Poteau 27 The Class 3A No. 19 Lady Rangers outscored the visiting Lady Pirates 35-7 in the first half of Tuesday’s conference game inside the Ranger Dome.

In the opening period Kynlei Earnhart knocked down three 3-pointers, Lilly Medicine Bird totaled seven points and Addison Cole hit a 3-pointer to help the Lady Rangers build a 21-4 lead.

Haven Freeman (7 points) and Cole each made a 3-pointer in the second stanza as Roland increased its advantage by 11 (14-3).

Freeman recorded six of her gamehigh 22 points in the third quarter and Earnhart hit her fourth 3-pointer of the contest but Poteau trimmed two points (11-9) off the lead.

In the final eight minutes Freeman (7 points) scored all of the Lady Rangers’ points.

Trailing Freeman in scoring for Roland (2-1) were Earnhart (12 points), Medicine Bird (9), Cole (6) and Julianna Trujillo (2).

The top four scorers for Poteau (0-4) in the game were Brooklyn Garner (8 points), Parker Patterson (6), Emma Hackler (5) and Gracyn Soehlman (4).

The Lady Rangers take on Stilwell at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday night at home.

Roland boys 85, Poteau 33 The Class 3A ninth-ranked Rangers raced out to a 28-8 lead after the first eight minutes on their way to a convincing home conference victory against Poteau Tuesday night.

In the first stanza Roland’s Ashton Peters knocked down three 3-pointers and registered 11 points, Kyeree Hall and Davohn Hall added four points apiece and Buck Triplett hit a 3-pointer.

Roland’s advantage grew to 28 by the end of the second period. Davohn Hall (two 3-pointers) and Carson Wiggins and Kyeree Hall (4 points each) were the leading scorers in the quarter for the Rangers, who outscored the Pirates 20-12.

Behind the scoring of Davohn Hall (two 3-pointers), Kyeree Hall (4 points) and Wiggins (3-pointer) the Rangers outscored the visitors 17-4 in the third.

Roland’s top scorers in the final frame were Jordan Royce (two 3-pointers), Tyson Williams (6 points) and Paul Johnson and Triplett (3-pointer apiece). The Rangers added 11 points (20-9) to their lead in the fourth.

Davohn Hall led all scorers in the contest with 16 points and also registering points for Roland (3-0 for the season) were Kyeree Hall (12), Peters (11), Wiggins and Triplett (9 each), Johnson, Royce and Williams (6 apiece), Peyton Whisenant (4) and Desean Cruse, Raesean Perryman and Mason Kemp (2 each).

The top four scorers for Poteau (13) were Hudson Burdick (6 points) and Wyatt Gamble, Champ Downs and Kord Fenton (5 each).

The Rangers host Stilwell at 8 p.m. Tuesday night.
