GORE HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL

Central won out Friday at Class 3A Westville, with the boys improving to 3-3 on the season with a victory against the eighth-ranked Yellowjackets. The Lady Tigers earned an impressive 29-point win in their contest, moving their record to 2-4 at the holiday break.

CENTRAL BOYS 54, WESTVILLE 46

The Central boys were able to come from behind against a bigger, ranked opponent on the road, so head coach Caleb Cawhorn has to be proud of the way his charges are starting to come together at this point in the season.

The game was tied at 19 by halftime, then the Tigers outdistanced the Yellowjackets in the second half to post the victory.

The top scorers for the Tigers were Devon Baggs with 15 points, followed by Connor Walters with 11 points, Aidan Sainer with eight and Joseph Lee with seven.

CENTRAL GIRLS 56, WESTVILLE 27

The Central girls were in beast mode from the start of the game, outscoring Westville 19-3 in the first quarter, setting the die for the remaining stanzas.

While the Lady Tigers slowed a little in the second and third periods, they increased their lead by two points for a lopsided 37-19 going into the last stanza.

And what a last stanza it was for Central. The Lady Tigers posted 19 points again, with Westville managing eight points for the convincing road win for the young Lady Tigers.
