Hemphill approved for Roland School Board seat

The Roland Board of Education met on Dec. 12 where they voted to approve Ronnie Hemphill as a school board member for Seat No. 5.

The Roland Board of Education met on Dec. 12 where they voted to approve Ronnie Hemphill as a school board member for Seat No. 5.

Board vice president Charles Howard made a motion, followed by a second motion from board president Jerry Brooks with all other board members voting yes. Hemphill then took the oath of office and loyalty oath to serve on the board.

The following policy and procedure updates were approved as follows:

• CBB – Policy forbidding the supplanting of federal funds and grant monies for local revenue

• CBBA – Grant policies and procedures

• DBD – Conflicts of interest

• PNASE 3a – Roland School District homeless student written policy

• GJBA – Student recruitment access to students and directory information

• EHBC – Special Education

• EHBC-R1 – Criteria for eligibility Special Education (regulation)

• EHBC-R2 – Special Education (regulation)

• EHBC-R3 – Child identification, location, screening, and evaluation notice to parents The board unanimously voted to approve qualified high school students to work under the direct supervision of a certified teacher and allow them to be paid $10 per hour through federal funds using a monthly time sheet following a motion from Hemphill.

Superintendent Lori Wiggins gave the board information about adjusting some banking situations to benefit the district’s account earnings during the administrator’s report. Wiggins also gave updates concerning impact aid, midterm adjustment, applying for the Stronger Connections Grant, looking at extra duty contracts moving into the next school year, and a run down of activities involving students the last week of school before Christmas break.

In financial matters, the board approved 2022-23 GF Encumbrances PO #360-501 for $318,491.91 for Oct. 3 to Dec. 5; Building Fund #49-59 for $38,219.58; Co-op Fund #33-40 for $975.20; GF #980-1,199 and 1,200-1,201 for $216,144.99; and GF payroll #1,0291,186 for $588,882.84.
