OSU and Texas A&M to host 10th annual Red River Crops Conference
Oklahoma State University Extension and Texas A&M University AgriLife Extension will host the 10th annual Red River Crops Conference Jan. 18 and 19, 2023, at the Childress Event Center in Childress, Texas. Admission is $25 per person. The event will feature crop management information to enhance the profitability of farms and ranches in southwest Oklahoma and the Texas rolling plains.

Admission is $25 per person. The event will feature crop management information to enhance the profitability of farms and ranches in southwest Oklahoma and the Texas rolling plains.
Continuing education units will be offered for certified crop advisors as well as credits through the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry and the Texas Department of Agriculture.
Conference highlights will include updates on the following topics: Jan. 18 National Cotton Council with Jody Campiche, National Cotton Council Cotton markets with John Robinson, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Herbicide program with Pete Dotray, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Cotton harvesting with John Wanjura, USDA-ARS Optimizing cotton fertility with Katie Lewis, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Cotton area programs with Seth Byrd, OSU Extension Jan. 19 Grain and livestock markets with Trent Milacek, OSU Extension Wheat crop status and in-season management with Josh Bushong, OSU Extension Carbon credits and markets with Amy Hagerman, OSU Extension Crop grazing with Paul Delaune, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension In-season nutrient management with Brian Arnall, OSU Extension Rainfall insurance with Jason Johnson, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Farm Bill outlook with Bart Fischer, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Gary Strickland, county Extension director, agriculture educator and southwest regional agronomist for OSU Extension in Jackson County, works closely with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension as well as OSU Extension offices in Cotton, Tillman, Harmon and Comanche counties to organize the conference.
The event rotates each year from Childress to Altus with an average conference attendance of 275 participants. Strickland said an evaluation component at the conclusion of each conference and the unwavering support of 25 to 30 event sponsors each year keep the program’s agenda relevant and timely.
“We want to continue using this successful event format with producers and industry partners to provide information that is useful to our producers not only in a drought but also during any other type of condition,” he said.
