Gore takes two from Gans at home Tuesday

Gore’s high school basketball teams defeated Gans Tuesday night inside the Gore Event Center.

GORE GIRLS 60, GANS 34

Gore’s Lindsey Pierce scored a game-high 24 points Tuesday night as the Lady Pirates (1-3) registered their first win of the season.

Pierce totaled nine points in the opening period while Melania Paniagua and Brianna Burris recorded four and three points, respectively, for the Lady Grizzlies (3-5), who were outscored 16-9.

In the second stanza Pierce (7 points) and Casteel each hit a 3-pointer and Oaklei Thornton added four points for the Lady Pirates, who led 32-17 at the half after adding eight points (16-8) to their advantage. Paniagua went 4-for-6 at the foul line for Gans in the quarter.

Kennedy Williams (4 points) and Pierce and Casteel (3 each) helped Gore increase (11-7) its lead in the third frame while K’Cee Osburn made a pair of 2-point field goals for the Lady Grizzlies.

In the final eight minutes Gore’s Rayleigh Moore went 4-for-4 at the foul line and totaled six points, Pierce (5 points) hit her third trey of the game and Williams added four points. Burris (5 points) made a 3-pointer for Gans and Paniagua recorded three points in the period. Trailing Pierce in scoring for Gore in the contest were Williams (10 points), Casteel and Moore (6 each), Thornton (5), Andi Summerlin (3) and Aspyn Cearley, Kima Wells and Grade Bruce (2 each).

Scoring for the Lady Grizzlies were Paniagua (13 points), Burris (10), Osburn (8) and Emily Phillips (3).

GORE BOYS 76, GANS 47

The undefeated Class A No. 18 Pirates registered 49 points in the first half of Tuesday’s contest on their way to their fourth victory of the season.

In the first stanza Gore’s Jackson Duke (two 3-pointers and 8 points), Ben Kirkpatrick (a trey and 7 points), Noah Cooper (a 3-pointer and 5 points) and Aidan Dickerson (4 points) scored a combined 24 points to help the Pirates go in front 26-11. Marc Tipton made three 2-point baskets and totaled seven points for Gans.

Kirkpatrick, Dickerson and Cooper scored five points apiece in the second period and Duke added four as Gore increased its advantage (23-11) to lead 49-22 at the intermission. Ashton Langston (5 points) hit a 3-pointer for the Grizzlies in the quarter and Mason Clifton added four points.

In the third frame Kirkpatrick registered seven of his game-high 19 points and Duke scored five to help the Pirates add to their lead (16-11). Tipton recorded six of his team-high 15 points for Gans and Logan Weese (5 points) made a 3-pointer.

The Grizzlies trimmed three points (14–11) off the deficit in the fourth quarter and Riley Pullin (4 points) and Bryce Stevens and Leland Locust (3-pointer apiece) were Gans’ top scorers. Tate Brooksher and Cain Cooper each hit a 3-pointer for Gore in the final eight minutes.

Trailing Kirkpatrick in scoring for Gore were Duke (17 points), Noah Cooper (12), Dickerson (11), Keigan Reid (6), Brooksher and Cain Cooper (3 apiece), Journey Shells and Nash Thouvenel (2 each) and Bryson Thouvenel (1).

Trailing Tipton in scoring for Gans were Langston (9 points), Weese (7), Clifton (6), Pullin (4) and Stevens and Locust (3 each).
