Rangers top Stilwell in key N0AA contest

The Roland boys topped Stillwell Tuesday night in a key Northeastern Oklahoma Athletic Association (NOAA) contest inside the Ranger Dome while the Stilwell girls downed the Lady Rangers.

The Roland boys topped Stillwell Tuesday night in a key Northeastern Oklahoma Athletic Association (NOAA) contest inside the Ranger Dome while the Stilwell girls downed the Lady Rangers.

STILWELL GIRLS 50, ROLAND 41

Roland’s Addison Cole and Haven Freeman scored a combined 27 points Tuesday night but Class 4A Stilwell (5-3) overcame a three-point halftime to register the conference win over the 3A No. 16 Lady Rangers (4-3).

In the first stanza Lilly Medicine Bird and Freeman each made a pair of 2-point field goals and Madison Jetton hit a 3-pointer as Roland went in front 13-11.

Cole and Freeman recorded four and three points, respectively, in the low-scoring second period and Roland led 20-17 at the half after outscoring the visitors 7-6.

Coleman (4 points) and Kynlei Earnhart (3-pointer) led the Lady Rangers in scoring in the third quarter but Stilwell erased the deficit (17-7) and took a 34-27 advantage to the fourth.

Freeman and Cole (5 points apiece) and Medicine Bird (4) accounted for Roland’s points in the final eight minutes while the Lady Indians added two points (16-14) to their lead.

Cole tied for game-high scoring honors with 15 points and also scoring for Roland were Freeman (12), Medicine Bird (8) and Jetton and Earnhart (3 each).

Stilwell’s top three scorers were Snowda Watie (15 points), Kinley Johnson (13) and Shannon Catron (10).

ROLAND BOYS 70, STILWELL 55

The Class 3A seventh-ranked Rangers (6-1) handed 4A No. 11 Stilwell (7-1) its first loss of the season Tuesday night by outscoring the Indians 44-26 in the second half of the key conference contest.

Davohn Hall (6 points) and Peyton Whisenant (5) scored 11 of Roland’s first-quarter points but the visitors took an 18-12 lead.

In the second period Kyeree Hall totaled eight points and Whisenant and Carson Wiggins added three apiece as the Rangers trimmed three points (1411) off the deficit.

Stilwell led 29-26 at the half. Wiggins (10 points), Davohn Hall (6), Whisenant (5) and Kyeree Hall (3) registered a combined 24 points in the third period as Roland outscored the Indians 24-11. Wiggins knocked down two 3-pointers in the quarter and Davohn and Kyeree made a trey apiece.

Whisenant recorded seven of his game-high 20 points in the final frame and Kyeree Hall (5 points), Wiggins (4) and Davohn Hall (3) added 12 points to Roland’s total. The Rangers widened their lead by five points (20-15) in the fourth.

Trailing Whisenant in scoring for Roland were Kyeree Hall and Wiggins (17 points apiece), Davohn Hall (15) and Buck Triplett (1).

Tyrus Teehee (19 points) and Cole Kimble (13) were Stilwell’s top two scorers in the contest.
