Fire reported behind TNT Pawn on Christmas Day
Sallisaw Fire Chief Anthony Armstrong said firefighters responded to a fire on Christmas Day behind TNT Pawn on E. Cherokee.
Sallisaw Fire Chief Anthony Armstrong said firefighters responded to a fire on Christmas Day behind TNT Pawn on E. Cherokee.
Armstrong said the call came in at 1:59 p.m. on Dec. 25 after the storage lot behind the business caught fire, which started in the grass.
“When we arrived on the scene, there were a couple of four-wheelers and riding lawnmowers, and a Volk- swagen Beetle car on fire,” Armstrong said. “We notified the business owner, Mr. Dillard and met with him. We actually had to cut a lock off to gain entry to the area that was on fire.”
Armstrong said firefighters were there about an hour getting the blaze extinguished.
“The items that burned were probably inoperable or damaged,” Armstrong said.
Armstrong said the fire was believed to have started from an electric wire located outside the building, which caught the grass on fire and then spread throughout the location.
“It looks like they lost a leg from the electric wire from outside and one of the wires burned into and caught the grass on fire,” he said.
Armstrong said the building still has power inside the business.
