Sallisaw man pinned in I-40 accident
A Sallisaw man on Dec. 23 was pinned for around 45 minutes in the truck he was driving following a personal injury collision on Interstate-40.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported Robert Sparks, 66, was traveling eastbound at 1:25 p.m. 1.2 miles west of the Vian exit in a 1993 Ford F150 when he departed the roadway to the right for unknown reasons and struck a tree.
Trooper Spencer Schmille #353 of the Sequoyah County Detachment of Troop C reported Sparks was pinned for around 45 minutes before being freed by members of Vian Fire Department and Sequoyah County Rural Fire Department using their extrication equipment.
Sparks was transported by Pafford EMS to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, where he was admitted in stable condition with head and trunk internal injuries.
Schmille said the cause of the collision remains under investigation as of press time and Sparks was wearing his seatbelt when the accident occurred.
Schmille was also assisted at the scene by OHP Lt. Sheldon Dobbs and Pafford EMS, according to the accident report.
