Ten Sallisaw players named to All-District gridiron list

By Jim Cameron Sports Writer

It was a tough season for the Sallisaw Black Diamonds football team, finishing with a 0-10 record. However, several players managed to stand out and were recognized for their impressive performances by being named to the 2022 District 4A-4 All District Awards. Leading the way for the Black Diamonds was Kiowa Coffman, who was named the Inside Linebacker of the Year and First Team All-District Inside Linebacker. Coffman was a tackling machine for the Black Diamonds, consistently making plays all over the field.

SALLISAW HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL

It was a tough season for the Sallisaw Black Diamonds football team, finishing with a 0-10 record. However, several players managed to stand out and were recognized for their impressive performances by being named to the 2022 District 4A-4 All District Awards. Leading the way for the Black Diamonds was Kiowa Coffman, who was named the Inside Linebacker of the Year and First Team All-District Inside Linebacker. Coffman was a tackling machine for the Black Diamonds, consistently making plays all over the field.

Joining Coffman on the First Team All-District defense was a dominant group of defensive linemen in Caleb Cowan, Patrick Mills and Chance Rich. These three players formed a formidable front that made it difficult for opposing offenses to run the ball. Christian Taylor was also named to the First Team All-District team, but as the kicker. Taylor was an asset, making several field goal attempts that provided the Black Diamonds with much-needed points.

In the secondary, Sim Kilpatrick earned First Team All-District honors as a defensive back. Kilpatrick was a ball hawk all season, recording several interceptions and pass breakups.

On the offensive side of the ball, Charlie Martin was the lone Black Diamond to earn First Team All-District honors. Martin was a reliable target for the Black Diamonds at wide receiver, consistently making plays down the field and in the red zone. T y Brown, Trevor Jenkins and Levi Sanders received honorable mentions for their performance last season.

While the season was not what the Black Diamonds had hoped for, the recognition of these players is a testament to the hard work and dedication they put in throughout the year. They will look to build off of this success and come back even stronger next season.

With a strong group of returning players and a determination to bounce back, the Black Diamonds are optimistic and hope a new head coach can turn things around quickly. The returning senior starters want the opportunity to have a full and fun experience during their last year playing at Sallisaw.
